Anyone making their own games? |
|
Pencil and Paper RPGs? War Games? Board Games?
Specifically, non-computer games?
Anyone working in the biz?
Anyone tried and given up?

1. I worked on a pnp RPG ruleset/world once upon a time. |
|
It was based on a world where various mutating plagues circulated endlessly.
Players became "Stricken" and gained various powers and abilities (and negative symptoms.)
Certain individuals (Plaguelords) actually sought out as many strains as they could in order to gain more and more power.
Interesting concept, but ultimately tough to translate into a game. I still might take my source material and work out some kind of dark fantasy novel out of it.

2. I wonder if that's a common trait amongst game designers? |
|
I've done several pnp RPGs or other wargames, and have also been interested in writing. I wonder if people who lean towards developing games tend to be interested in writing as well?
Your idea of powers coming from a plague is an interesting angle on the old mutant powers meme. I'd say go for it.

december, if all goes according to plan... yes this includes the map book that I am in the midst of editing.
The name is Future Nexus and you can find the website here
www.deistgames.com
What is it all about? Well doing demos and all that, but the website, I think, will do a better job of explaining the world
Though in a nutshell the world deals with first encounter between humans and aliens.
Oh and I am a profesional freelancer in the bizz and I will give right now the needed advise
If you are offered a "contract" over email, it is not binding.
DEMAND a WRITTEN and PRINTED contract, with a minimum pay rate, kill fee and all of that. They refuse on any of this, there are other companies out there. Yuo work for ANYBODY with a verbal agreement, you do such at your peril. Yes I have the horror stories to tell... including stolen material... aka not paid for but published under somebody else's name.
yes there is a list of black listed companies among freelancers, and we will gladly share them. These are the people you will work at your own risk, they love you, the fan, for they can get cheap writing the "easy way". Oh and yes it includes a fair percentage of companies right now in the bidness.
