Anyone still playing Deus Ex?
I love this game. I don't think I could ever get tired of it in a hundred years. Each time I play, I come up with at least one new way to solve the game's problems--mostly involving a new cache of explosives I didn't know existed before.

1. Great game!!!!
I haven't played it in over 2 years, but it's still one of my all time favorites. Deus Ex2 was good, but not as good as the 1st.

2. Help me get it to work on my PC
It ran great on my old Celeron 500 with an old Voodoo card.

I'm upgraded big time, and it just doesn't want to run. NVidia GeForce 4, Athlon XP, 4 times as much RAM.

I get weird artifacts in the textures, and the sound keeps skipping around, and the whole thing just runs slow and jerky.

I'll bet you're a System Shock 2 fan, too.

3. Some things I can suggest to get this to run better
It seems like 90% of the time that I have trouble with audio, it has something to do with the virus-checking software. Try running it with your virus scanner temporarily disabled to see if it improves matters.

Also, this game is configured to work with DirectX 7.0. Make sure you have recent drivers for your video and sound cards that are compatible with at least that version and that you have a version of DirectX on your machine that is at least 7.0. (Although if you're into gaming, you probably do.)

Then make sure that the video settings in the game are set to Direct3D Support. You might have been running the game in 3dfx Glide mode before (which is what the Voodoo supports), and I imagine that might give problems with an NVidia card.

The specs on my machine are nowhere near as impressive as yours, and it runs flawlessly.

4. Every time I play it, I say "I'm gonna do things different"
but I end up being all stealthy and sniping everyone with an extensively upgraded, silenced sniper rifle.
It's just too much fun.
I think I need to play it again now...
