Game purchases you regret.............
What are some games you regret buying? Anything from the N64/PS1 era on up to the new consoles of today (Xbox360,PS3 ect), including PC and handhelds (Gameboy, psp, DS ect). Here's mine........

but first I've noticed that most of the games I've ever regretted buying were the ones that I only played through once and never played through them again. I could have rented them instead of having to dish out the $50-60. Anyways here are some of mine.......

Def Jam Icon (Xbox360)- played it through once then never touched it
Age of Conan (PC)- I bought into the hype, played it then didn't think it was worth the monthly fee
Perfect Dark Zero (Xbox360)- My brother bought this and played it once and never touched it again, I tried it but didn't like it.
Star Wars Empire at War (PC)- never even beat this game, it just got boring, it wasn't fun for me.
Assassins Creed (Xbox360)- This is a rental at best, I didn't think of that when I first bought it.
Rome Total War (PC)- Never really picked up on this game.
True Crime Streets of L.A. (Xbox)- This game was shit, nuff said.
GTA 4 (Xbox360)- $60 only to have played through it twice.

That's about all I can think of right now, What are some of the games you regret buying? You can just list the games, you don't have to explain anything like I did.

P.S. I need Gamefly!

1. Ruins of Myth Drannor
Okay. I can understand a small bug or two slipping by the developers, or some game mechanic/balance issues being unresolved at time of final release, but..... holy crap.

Check THIS out. From this game's Wiki:

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor was criticized for a number of bugs, such as a very serious issue in the unpatched version that would delete the Windows's System Folder if the game was uninstalled.

:wow: :wow: :wow:

I had this installed for maybe five minutes before I patched it and then safely removed it.

Unbelievable.

was a pilot, soloed at 15. maybe it was my pathetic computer just a waste of time and effort, i was SAF_Black_Rain in Crimson Skies. i played that game daily in multi-player for 5 years, a lot of it was the community, i really miss the people ...

i go to youtube.com and check out the games, before buying them, Brothers in Arms was another, i don't want to drag around a bunch of virtual people in a game..

StarWars Battle Front was a mistake.. it was a Multi-player game. i only had a 15 yr old HP Pavilion and a cheap land line, it lagged so bad no one would let me play.. there was another combat game that was multi-player, peopled by 14 year olds on Ritalin with overclocked $3000 computers.. why bother

i got some old used games at the video store for $5, but i guess those don't count.. couldn't give em away at the yard sale. they were as old as my computer, so at least i could play them.. ....i got tired of off-the-shelf computer problems and built a good computer and now have RoadRunner... i can fix it and upgrade it:bounce: :fistbump: i play on a few clans now in Multiplayers

3. Rome Total War???
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 11:31 AM by YOY
Jesus....you're killing me. I have gotten my money out of this game ten times over.

MTWII and not Empire TW as well. You're talking my faves completely.

As for my list (There are many):
Any RPG not made by Bioware or SSI (back in the day.)
ET...yes I saved up as a wee YOY and bought it and thought...jesus...that's it?
Master of Orion 3...kill me now.
Halo for the PC...Sorry X-Box fanboys but BIG FUCKING DEAL...I am not impressed. Apparently the multiplayer is just wonderful...I repeat myself BIG FUCKING DEAL. I swear I hope you guys shitting yourself over Halo 3 was worth it. I was about ready to strangle some stupid gamestop employee when he started pining about it like it was going to cure fucking cancer. (Sorry...I just had to get that out of my system...I am sure it was a decent game but REALLY...the best thing ever???)
Dead Space recently was a great play but poor replayability.

5. Lol I just never got into it..........
Rome Total War, I played it but I just never picked up on it. I'm sure there is a lot of replay value in it but it just didn't interest me for some reason. I may go back and try it again, but about Halo, it's a good game, good not great. I don't ever play the multiplayer in any game, which seems to either make or break a game nowadays. I always thought it was a good shooter with a fairly generic story (aliens come to earth to invade ect) but it's not as good as some make it out to be, I agree with you there.

Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 08:28 AM by YOY
Rome is a little dated now.

MTWII will be cheap and the graphics still pop. ETW runs on Direct X 10 and may need some HW upgrades.

They take some time to understand. Once you do...it's tacticstastic.

8. It doesn't require it. I ran it in XP on DX9 before....but loading times are a bear.
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 10:49 AM by YOY
I needed more Ram and a Better video card to run it better.

Playing it on Vista with DX9 now. I will upgrade my video card in 2 weeks though...it is FAR more complex than any previous Total War game. It has sooo many levels of complexity.

4. Enchanted Arms, PS3
I couldn't play through more than five minutes. Lucky thing I only paid $10 for it, but that's $10 I could have spent on anything that wasn't Enchanted Arms.

Ugh.

9. M.A.X. 2 was a big letdown.
The first one is fantastic, but the sequel was a disaster of a game.

Other than that I've been very lucky. I do a lot of homework before buying any game, and I worked at a game store for a few years as well, so we got to try everything first.

10. I usually have no regret, since I never buy games without researching.
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 01:56 PM by Evoman
However, I did make a mistake buying Rainbow Six. I kept hearing how good it was, but once I started playing it, I decided I really didn't like it. I don't think I got past the second level.

Oh yeah, and thought I think it's an excellent game, I never played Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun much after buying it. I realllllly suck at real time strategy games, and I was tired of continually being nuked to death. Red Alert was a little better, but still. You get demoralized after having your ass handed to you continually.

On edit: No, wait...Tiberian Sun was the easier one that had stupid AI...it was one of the other C and C games that I sucked at.

12. hmm,
Cabela's Big Game Hunter: Alaska. That game is just to...damn confusing and slow(ps2). I somewhat enjoyed Big Game Hunt for the pc, and when I saw the Alaska one, and that my hometown would be featured, I bought it...but I regret it, I haven't played it in...2yrs or better.

NCAA College Football 2008: I think it was 2008, it had the dude from the Boise St team on the cover...I didn't care much for this football game.

Madden 08 and Madden 07:I hated the new features they put in, 07 was just below average suckage, but 08 was dutifully and woefully bad in my view.

any 2K sports game...especially their basketball titles...I think the worst I've come across wast he NCAA College 2k of 03, or 04...it was so damn cheap/cheaterific, I about pulled my hair out. As long as you shot the ball in the proper zone, you could never miss, from anywhere on the court. Dude I played against had Hollis Price(from OU), and he would just inbound the ball, and shoot HUGE/LONG 3 pointers....he would never miss.

14. I don't think they are that good
either, obviously....:D

Madden is good though, they...EA for whatever reason, just likes...messing with just about everything, year to year...I wish they would just keep what works good(via fan/critic consensus), and try and improve on that...

As for sports titles, the best I've seen...by far are the MLB games, the MLB 2000, 2001, and now MLB The Show...MLB The Show from...07(David Wright on cover) was pretty damn good and pretty much put the kibosh on the players, hitting 100plus homers per year. In MLB 2000-2006, if you found the little..."niche" for your hitter, you could quite possibly hit over 100 homers per season(I'm talking 29 game seasons here)...my bud was a HUGE J. Bagwell fan, and with Bagwell, he would hit 4-6 home runs a game...both against the game AI and myself...no matter how crappy/bad the pitch was, if he "hit" it just right, it was gone...outta the park. With MLB the Show 07...that glitch(from what I've seen) isn't there, damn, I'm hard pressed to get two hits(with a single player!)...makes for better games, and more cussin if you lose....

15. Railroad Tycoon III
RTII was a masterpiece that I still play to this day. But RTIII sucked but only because they tried to move it into that 3D style graphics that just does nothing for me. I tried playing the game but ended up going back to RTII - it's what I like to play when I'm stressed

16. Eventually they'll understand that a good strategy game doesn't need 3D graphics.
Or maybe not. There's some examples where 3D can actually be integral to the game (the Combat Mission series leaps to mind), but they're few and far between.

Panzer General 1 and 2 are amazing, but the 3rd one switched to 3D and it looked and played lousy in comparison (even on good PC's for the time). I've played all the General series games repeatedly with the exception of PG3.

17. When it comes to these Tycoon games - the extra graphics do NOT do anything
Mind you've I love these build-em type of games including Zoo Tycoon, Sim City, Tropico, Zeus, Caeser, Age of Mythology, and of course Railroad Tycoon II. But as soon as they add in the fancy graphics its just too much for me to handle. I wasn't even keen on Warcraft III (but love Starcraft and WCII).

The thing with most of these games isn't so much as building but building an Economy and making basic needs as demanded by your citizens (Lately I've been on a Tropico kick - I love that game. You build your very own 3rd World island community). So adding in the fancy graphics are not necessarily an improvement on the game.

19. My problem with Tropico is I know the cheats
So I'll start the game off by deleting everything and rebuilding it to have maximum profits. I find the closest Gold Field and move my port so that it's easy to get the gold to the docks. I also move the Teamsters & Construction buildings away from the Mansion too (Teamsters should be near my farms & mines). If you can get your gold up and running then you'll be set for profits. Logging is also a good starter business. I basically try to put all my farms into an area with some apartments on the outskirts. Oh and you need about 3 construction offices so you can keep up with the new buildings.

BTW, I never seem to make a profitable Jewelry business. I usually just ship out the gold and hopefully build either a Tobacco or Rum empire (make your dictator a Booze Baron and you'll get filthy rich). Tobacco seems to be the easiest of the cash crops to grow (it's rare you get a good sugar planting area and even then the land changes real quickly). And I also build lumber but rarely furniture unless I run out of jobs for my HS educated people. With men I can just build more army stuff or police baracks but with women you run out of HS educated jobs (I never have more than 2 teachers or I get swamped with students). So factories help with the women.

26. OK, I'll admit it...
I bought an Atari Jaguar... there it is, I admit it. There were actually some really good games released for it, Alien vs Predator, Doom, Tempest 2000, Syndicate, Brutal Sports Football and Iron Soldier. On the other hand, I bought some real turd burgers:

Kasumi Ninja - uggg, a mortal kombat wannabe. No control, no special moves (at least none I ever figured out), awful graphics... just a really bad game.
Bubsy - The single worst platform game ever made.
Dragon the Bruce Lee story - A steaming pile not even Bruce Lee could save.
Trevor McFur - Not only a crappy shooter but you could finish it in about an hour or so.

But the worst... The one that made the others look good...

Club Drive - Unplayable. I've never seen anything that even comes close to the depths this "game" sank to. At the time I bought this, I was living in an apartment in Rocky Hill CT, on the fifth floor. A buddy of mine and I had gone to the game store to get new games. I forget what he got but I had selected Club Drive. We popped it in and after one race (that we could not complete), I was so pissed off that I simply took it out of the machine and threw it out the window. It was really that bad. We were supposed to be racing in a kids room and the sweep of the room before the race started looked ok but... once the race started, most of the objects in the room dis-appeared, including the other cars. There was also nothing to show where the "track" was... oh but it gets worse. Depending on what direction you were facing, the "wall" in the background might change color but the floor, ceiling and walls would always be the same color and there was not even a thin black line to distinguish them, it just looked like the car on a solid color background. We drove around like that for a good five minutes before I just could not take it anymore. Damn... I just realized I'm pissed about it all over again just writing this out, hahahahahahahahaha
