This presentation was apparently on MTV and other basic cable stations, but it's now available on the Xbox Network for free.

Info: http://www.xbox.com/en-us/community/events/e3/kinect.htm

Considering this was a one-time presentation, it was pretty outstanding. Beat the Winter Olympics, IMO.

“Creating and producing this customized experience for Microsoft took four months of preparation work for the
creation team and required 76 artists and no less than 200 technicians. The magnitude of the event is greater
than any other taken on by Cirque du Soleil Events.
” -- Martin Dignard, Production Director

While I don't endorse this Kinect thing (yet - see below) if you have an Xbox, the free download is worth checking out just for the show.

Note that I have my problems with the Kinect device (starting with my suspicion that every demo of it at e3 was a FAKE, having the actors "dance" in synch with the video, not the other way around - see also: http://e3.gamersguidetolife.com/2010/06/was-microsoft-e3-demo-real-time.html ).

1. frankly
I view all that stuff as pure gimmickery. The Wii is vaguely novel for a few hours, or even days, but after that meh. It's just like 3D gaming. It's just not worth it with current technology. If there was a realistic force-feedback system out there for gloves, I could see doing a virtual reality type of thing. But right now? No. Waste of money.

Not that that should dissuade them from developing; to the contrary. But it's probably going to be 10-15 years before I would even think of buying such a divice

2. Put aside the product. Check out the SHOW. The show was something this side of the Olympics.
I simply have to respect the work (money) that went into the production, and it was something that I suspect few people saw.

Available on Xbox network - free download.

3. oh, sure
I've seen bits of it on joystiq and other sites. It's a cool concept, no doubt, just a totally useless peripheral, at least at the moment
