And once again the anti-video game BS comes alive at DU.
Not going to link to it...but it's sad some of the illogical "save the children" bs going on around here.

So glad that censorship is alive and well in the left as well as the right.

1. i think I know which thread
and most people were being reasonable, but I looked at it this morning, so who knows that it looks like now. I do grow weary of people who want to assign blame for everything to a particular factor, especially one which they have rarely if ever partaken in.

2. I know one of the anti-gaming folks well.
She's quite a nice person but she cannot get it out of her head that if I as a reponsible, professional, mature adult want to play a game where I virtually kill some shit and watch some nasty behavior I will goddamn well do it.

It does not affect my personal or professional life at all. It does not make me hate women to see someone demeaning women in a game.

Failure to understand the medium as a vehicle for storytelling.

Sad.

3. I saw that thread
I hid it not too long ago. It was just turning into a monster.

I didn't have a problem with at all with those saying the game probably isn't appropriate for a 6-year-old. I'm fine with that. It was all the misinformation such as a rape scenes in GTA that was bothering me and why I was posting. I was correcting the misinformation.

I always find GTA outrage amusing. It is not as graphic as a traditional shooter game, the versions before GTA 4 are very cartoonish. And since the game is so popular, there have been so many (too many to count) copycats that have been created to cash in on GTA's popularity no longer makes GTA among the most violent video games. Very rarely you hear about outrage on those games.

Also the desensitized comments bothered me. I almost posted the recent study of how shooter video games improve decision making in response.

Here is the study. http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/features/shooter-video-games-can-improve-decision-making-study_484656.html

I wasn't going to go with that specific article. The one I wanted to post was titled, "Grand Theft Auto can improve decision making." :D

6. yeah, the main point was fine
yeah, I think GTA is inappropriate for a 6 yo. That's why it's rated M.

BTW, wtf rape scenes are we talking about? I didn't finish GTA IV, but I don't recall anything like that in III or San Andreas

7. That's what I asking
IIRC a poster was making that claim and another claimed Elmer Fudd didn't rape women for fun in response to a poster talking about how violent Bugs Bunny cartoons were in the context of the Grand Theft Auto game. That kind of thing was bothering me.

Like you I haven't seen anything close to that not even a sex scene. I defeated GTA 4 twice. The last mission is fun as hell to play in that game.

8. You have to be careful with one of those posters.
She's not a bad person, btu everthing is demeaning to women to her. Even the rumor of demeaning behavior or rape is good enough for condemnation.

You have to be careful with her...but she is not a bad person.

4. I saw it
When I saw your post to it, I thought... well, that about sums it up nicely... I can't think of anything else to add. Stick a fork in this thread, it's done.... I should have known it would turn into a train wreck. I don't have any answers, I've been hearing the same shit since I was playing Telengard on my old Atari 800XL back in '81 or '82, whenever the hell I got that thing.

You know... OK, I'm totally cool with parents deciding what their children play... They should! And games are better labeled then movies or TV to help them decide whats good for their child. I just get a little ooky every time they try to decide what I should be allowed to play.

I'm not a child.
I'M NOT
I'M NOT
I'M NOT

ehhhh, ok, that whole bit is much funnier in my head then when it gets typed out. I'll just stop now and go back to playing some Sacred 2, I'm almost ready resurrect that thread again and add a guide for a casting warrior thats working pretty sweet.

5. Some of them mean well but don't know what a slippery slope they decline.
One of the reasons I cannot go off on the person I am discussing things with.

She seems to be the only woman I know of that complains about constant degredation of women in video games...and everywhere else.

Happy hunting.
