Anyone ever play Hearts of Iron? |
|
I'm thinking of buying it for my Mac.
I like strategy games and simulation games.

2. The games in that series are unlike no other games |
|
They're a weird mix of real time and turn-based movement. I couldn't get into them.
If you weren't a Mac user, I'd tell you to wait until the 4th when the sequel comes out.

I'm a big fan of "grand" strategy board games.
Maybe I can handle the weird mix. I think I'll give it a try.

4. You might really like it then |
|
Especially if you're knowledgable about the period. The games in the series go into heavy detail about every little thing.
Believe me, I know how enjoyable that can be for some people. Give me a mech game with that kind of detail and I'm there!

5. I'm a big fan of Europa Universalis (I &II) which are the mothers of HoI |
|
Those games are really great !! If you can, try also Europa Universalis II (from 15th century to 1819). There is a great scenario for the US Revolutionnary War and the Napoleonic wars are great too.

7. Great game if you are into WWII games. |
|
i liked EU1 and was only ok with EU2 (fucking cheap AI and useless caps on civs in fantasia). HoI is great for WWII fiends, well built, too bad i'm not all that into WWII. but i have several friends who love HoI, so i'd recommend it. Vicky is out from them, it's... ok. could be a lot better, but it has big improvements in areas.
all of their games slant *obscenely* into a eurocentric advantage -- one of the big factors that turned me off from their games. it's often impossible to play certain countries and do better than "vassal of greater european imperial power" even if you have 200+ years time to prepare for invasion. after awhile i just gave up on their games, i had no interest in being a european imperial power anymore.
