:banghead: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :banghead: due to "that thread"!

Sorry to vent . . . Now, what were you asking? :)

Though technically right now I don't "homeschool" as my oldest went back to school this year (9th grade alternative school with self-directed learning or he wouldn't be there). EXCEPT -

I found out today that my youngest's Charter school - which runs through 5th grade - would be allowed to expand to middle school. The School Board REFUSED to even HEAR a petition to have a middle school. They "assured" us that THEY would be able to provide whatever our children needed.

Ha. Our kids will be bilingual and looking for improved literacy in their 2nd language. They only thing they offer in middle school here is "Spanish 1 and 2". Hell, our kids could probably teach that class!

So - I will probably be back to hs'ing in a year and a half as there is no way in hell I'm sending my kid to one of the "regular" middle schools around here. (Read my description of my older son's brief brush with middle school here. horrible) If the PS doesn't deliver on their promise to have an "acceptable program" then I can see a number of us pulling our kids and devising a program ourselves.

2. HeeHee.
Sometimes, I just sit and think about how grateful I am that we can do this - at least for now (one never knows about the future).

I'm glad that your older boy found a good place.

I hope everything works out for your youngest; positive thoughts headed your way.

It's a challenge these days getting the right educational environment for one's kids; it surely is.

4. We just can't let it bother us.
I find the hostility to be quite disappointing; but, when I hear from reasonable people, who support parents' efforts to find the right educational opportunity/alternative for their kids, that rights things.

Hang in there!

:hi:

My son is finishing up this year with an internship of sorts with a local veterinary clinic. He's good with animals and I thought it would give him a dose of "real world" of dealing with people in a job like situation.
As far as the comments, I jump in where I see them and sometimes just jump in and add the fact that I home school wherever it is appropriate. I am proud of the sacrifices I have made for my son and he is a better person because of it. I don't know why there is this stereotype that all home schoolers are out back skinning possums for a curriculum and beating their kids with a Bible. But I get that from all corners, especially the public school system. All I wanted was to enroll my son in Driver's Ed and the school guidance counselor treated me like I had three heads when I told her when home schooled. Good Grief people, get out of the dark ages of education!

6. Welcome!
Yes, correcting the misinformation gets very discouraging. Sometimes I just don't bother.

Boy, it sounds like congrats are in order to your son! He's accomplished so much! He should be proud of himself!

:hi:

We are here, and can support each other.
