1. I'm late on this one,
but I've never seen "Sparrows", and I'd love to. We're starved of silents here.

TCM's Star of the Month here was Greta Garbo, and I so hoped they'd screen at least one of her silents, but they didn't. Just kept recycling five of her talkies - probably about all she did. Pity.

2. Any silent film festivals and the like down your way?
I didn't see Sparrows but would like to. TCM does make a point of featuring silents regularly.

Back in my university days, I used to check out the silent films at the theater in the student union building. Sometimes the movies would be accompanied by live music, but on at least one occasion I saw something without a soundtrack -- so different from seeing things on TV, where there was always a soundtrack.

Here in the D.C. area, I've seen maybe one silent movie in the theater (at the National Gallery). A friend of mine in L.A. found a silent theater in no time, but that's L.A.

Do you have any silent movie theaters/festivals your way?

3. Apologies for the delay -
We just had a long weekend, and went to stay with friends in the Southern Highlands.

We do have a silent film festival; it's been running for about five years now, but while the first one was shown in my local cinema complex, it's been a moveable feast since then. It plays all over Sydney, and they do seem to replay the same films a lot, so I don't feel it's worth my while making a long trip. If it comes back our way, or if they play something I really want to see, I'd go.
