TCM Schedule for Thursday, December 1 -- Star of the Month: William Powell
It's always a task to discover TCM's themes for a particular day, especially the theme for the daylight hours. As best as I can tell, today's theme is the films of makeup artist, Gordon Bau. All of the day's films prior to primetime are the work of Bau, except The Millionairess (1961) and Promise Her Anything (1966). This evening, we have the early films of this month's Star of the Month, William Powell. Enjoy!

6:00 AM -- The Millionairess (1961)
When the world's richest woman falls for an ascetic Indian doctor, they plan a test to decide whose dreams will come true.
Dir: Anthony Asquith
Cast: Sophia Loren, Peter Sellers, Alastair Sim.
C-86 min, TV-PG

Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren recorded the novelty song "Goodness Gracious Me!" in order to promote the movie. The song became a big worldwide hit.

7:35 AM -- One Reel Wonder: Boris Pasternak 1890 - 1960 (1965)
A short biography of Boris Pasternak, Nobel prize winner and author of "Dr. Zhivago," the inspiration and basis of the movie of the same name.
C-9 min,

Paternak should have personally received the Nobel Prize for his novel "Doctor Zhivago" in 1958, but the Soviet regime forced him not to do so.

7:45 AM -- Mary, Mary (1963)
A man on the verge of divorce is shocked by wife's glamorous makeover.
Dir: Mervyn LeRoy
Cast: Debbie Reynolds, Barry Nelson, Michael Rennie.
126 min, TV-PG , CC

The original Broadway production of "Mary, Mary" by Jean Kerr opened at the Helen Hayes Theater in New York on March 8, 1961 and ran for 1572 performances. This is one of the few instances when a movie was released while the Broadway play was still running.

10:00 AM -- Kisses for My President (1964)
The first female president has to deal with her husband's bruised ego.
Dir: Curtis Bernhardt
Cast: Fred MacMurray, Polly Bergen, Arlene Dahl.
114 min, TV-PG

Nominated for an Oscar for Best Costume Design, Black-and-White -- Howard Shoup

The car that Valdez picks up before the wild ride with McCloud is a Jaguar D-Type, a popular race car and LeMans contender in the 1950s but obsolete by the time of the film's release in 1964.

12:00 PM -- Dear Heart (1964)
A middle-aged postmistress falls for an engaged man during a convention in New York.
Dir: Delbert Mann
Cast: Glenn Ford, Geraldine Page, Michael Anderson Jr..
114 min, TV-PG , CC

Nominated for an Oscar for Best Music, Original Song -- Henry Mancini (music), Jay Livingston (lyrics) and Ray Evans for the song "Dear Heart"

At the time this movie was being filmed, the demolition of the above-track-level portions of New York's Pennsylvania Station was beginning. In the opening scene of Evie Jackson's arrival in New York, you can see several panes of station windows broken and replaced with boards. By 1966, the station had been converted from its old to its new form, and the new Madison Square Garden had been added on top of it.

2:00 PM -- Never Too Late (1965)
