It's always a task to discover TCM's themes for a particular day, especially the theme for the daylight hours. As best as I can tell, today's theme is the films of makeup artist, Gordon Bau. All of the day's films prior to primetime are the work of Bau, except The Millionairess (1961) and Promise Her Anything (1966). This evening, we have the early films of this month's Star of the Month, William Powell. Enjoy!

A short biography of Boris Pasternak, Nobel prize winner and author of "Dr. Zhivago," the inspiration and basis of the movie of the same name.

The original Broadway production of "Mary, Mary" by Jean Kerr opened at the Helen Hayes Theater in New York on March 8, 1961 and ran for 1572 performances. This is one of the few instances when a movie was released while the Broadway play was still running.

At the time this movie was being filmed, the demolition of the above-track-level portions of New York's Pennsylvania Station was beginning. In the opening scene of Evie Jackson's arrival in New York, you can see several panes of station windows broken and replaced with boards. By 1966, the station had been converted from its old to its new form, and the new Madison Square Garden had been added on top of it.

The original Broadway production of "Never Too Late" by Sumner Arthur Long opened at the Playhouse Theater on November 26, 1962 and ran for 1007 performances. I played the role of Mayor Crane (Lloyd Nolan in the film) in a community theatre in the 1970s. I haven't seen the film since then!
