Think you don't have anything to wear? |

GO CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS & BUREAUS!!!! You might be surprised.
Honestly, I never considered myself to be a clotheshorse, but since I've lost 44 pounds (with 60 more to go), I've had summon the courage to plunge into my closets & bureaus to clean out the clothes that are now too large for me. I first did this a couple of months ago & ended up throwing a bunch of stuff away (undies & stained/torn beyond repair things), but also had SIX BAGS OF CLOTHES to donate.
sheesh. You'd think that would have been enough cleaning out. But wait, there's more.
Last week, as I was doing laundry, I discovered I could no longer stuff anymore clothes into my closet. Once again, I dove in & started culling the herd, so to speak. That lead me to organizing the bureaus I have as well. Can you believe that I now have six MORE BAGS of stuff to donate (as well as stuff that was trashed??)
OMG, just how many t-shirts does one person need? How many pairs of jeans? Fer cryin' out loud, I'd forgotten I had most of this stuff!!!
Sooo, it's one more trip to Goodwill for me with a carload of clothes, along with a vow not to buy anymore clothes unless I really need them (ie, what I've got now becomes too big).

eating right & exercising. no supplements, other than vitamins, because i refuse to put anything in my body that's going to monkey with my metabolism.
plus, it also helps to avoid the big corporate fast food places. i no longer crave mcd's & crap like that. if i go for "fast food," i head for subway & get a sandwich. i've now also cut out most processed sugar stuff & cokes & in fact if i have too much of either, i get sick. too much coca cola in my system makes me feel like i'm coming down with the FLU!! what's in that garbage anyway?????
i've also joined a local gym & will be lifting weights & going to spinning classes....hopefully, the last 60 lbs will go faster than the 1st (now) 46 lbs. :)

I declutter my clothes occasionally.
One time I counted all my tshirts, sweatshirts, shorts, pants, dress shirts, etc. I had over 70 tshirts. I piled everything up, sorted through, and got rid of a bunch.

Since I am doing the diet and exercise thing trying to be healthier and lose weight (started last August) I am hoping to do it in stages like you by getting rid of stuff as it becomes too large to wear. I've already gotten rid of a few things.

don't give up!! i lost about 31 pounds rather quickly, but was essentially the same weight for about a year. it would take months just to lose one stinkin' pound. :grr: i wish i had a dime for everytime i heard "muscle weighs more than fat." :nuke:
soooo, since december, i've bitten the bullet. i shook up my diet, did some different exercise (actually walking outside instead of doing walk away the pounds---although that is a GREAT home exercise video/dvd program), joined a gym & am now down 46 pounds, with 63 to go. the spinning instructor at the gym lost 150 lbs so she knows what i'm going through & is really supportive & inspiring. one of these days, i'll be able to do the 5 minute standing flats.....
also get yourself a good support system. if you need a shoulder to lean on, feel free to pm me. :)

6. Thanks for the Encouragement! |

I haven't lost more than 5 pounds since I started at the gym. But I've toned up and lost inches. I do 30 minutes on the elliptical and about 20 different weight stations. Try to get there five times a week. But I don't go if I am tired or not feeling well and sometimes I am out of town. I'm determined not to get sick or injured like I have in the past. So I probably average four days a week at the gym. Now that I am able to do more I've started to notice more of a difference. I could barely do five minutes on the elliptical when I started. Also, I really do notice that I feel much better.

|
of course she's a size 4 :P god i hate her. ;)
but she & i have both noticed that so far, in our office, we're the only ones who workout & are also the only ones haven't gotten some sort of bug/cold/crud & almost everyone else has. ::knocking on wood:: so keep up the steady workouts because i think it affects your immune system & in a good way! :)

And if you're fat like me, get your thyroid checked! It might be dead!
If you suspect it's your slow metabolism, also caused by middle age, please read this website. This lady went thru all the idiot doctor hell I went thru and then some:

10. I started to clean out closets and other storage units 3 years ago |
|
and I agree, I had stuff stashed all over the place. In my case, I had to admit that my body had changed with age and get rid of a lot of skinny clothing that I doubt I'll ever fit into unless famine strikes, and maybe not even then. I have cleaned out my kitchen, donated books both to the local library and the library in New Orleans, donated furniture to Aunt Sally's, donated piles and piles of STUFF.
People wonder why I don't have yard sales. The truth is that I just can't summon the energy and I don't need the money, so I'll continue to donate.
The local thrift shops sustained me for a very long time. Giving back is the right thing for me to do now.

11. I did this recently, and yeah, I took four car loads of stuff to Goodwill! |
|
and the really ratty stuff I'm donating to a pet rescue group to use for bedding. Now all I want is some good staples (white t-shirts, a black skirt, etc.) made of HEMP. I'm sick of stuff looking worn after just a few washings!
