Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Sweet Compassion.

Today I had the distinct honor of meeting Elizabeth Edwards at her book signing for 'Saving Graces' at Jospeh-Beth Booksellers in Charlotte, NC.



Elizabeth was eagerly awaited by her many fans.  The fairly large room was filled and many were standing.  She quietly entered the room but her presence was announced by the quiet shifting of attention.  As Elizabeth was introduced and approached the microphone a still, respectful hush reeked of quiet adoration. She spoke for several minutes and there were few dry eyes in the house.  One young woman wept uncontrollably.  Then, Elizabeth said she would entertain questions from the audience.  </p>
<p>The question and answer session that ensued went from questions regarding Jack and Emma Claire to questions asking about 'you know who' running for President.  There were questions about grief and questions about healing. She answered them every one and she answered them with the respect and gentleness she is known to possess.  Then, it was time to stop the questions and answers and sign the copies of her book those in the audience had purchased.  The retailer announced the order in which the clients would be asked to line up for the signing to maintain some organization with regard to the line.</p>
<p>Many people approached me asking about OneAmerica and the website address.  I also talked with quite a few about  People for Edwards and how to 'get in touch'.  It was truly wonderful to know there were like minded souls still in the world.</p>
<p>Then, there was a wonderful surprise.  I was plesed to meet the famous IbbyBud and Annonymoses in person!  What a treat.</p>
<p>There was at least one person in a wheel chair, quite a few youngsters and one man who admitted being a 'singer' just like Elizabeth.</p>


<p>As if Elizabeth hadn't already stolen every heart in the building, when one guest became overwhelmed with sadness, Elizabeth immediately walked around the table, took the woman in her arms and comforted her.  She consoled the lady for a minute or two and asked the staff to assist her as Elizabeth continued with her duties.  That kind of compassion is never forgotten.   Another guest got a hug for a similar reason too. </p>
<p>Many of those in attendance were breast cancer survivors that I referenced in another BLOG last week. The bookstore announced that it would give a portion of the proceeds to the local chapter  of the Susan G Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.</p>

The Charlotte Observer and several other media were in attendance. I will post the Observer article tomorrow.

Also, I might add... there were 'whispers' encouraging Elizabeth Edwards to run for Presidetn! Watch out now!<P>
