DU has changed

Ever since the "election", DU has seemed to have lost its aim and purpose and instead has devolved into a nest of negativity, spite, ugliness, whining and complaining, racism, intolerance and barely concealed hatred. Might as well be over at FreeRepublic for all the venom some people spit here. I'm finding that my stomach is in knots by the time I leave this site.

There are more people posting here since the election who do not espouse liberal, democratic viewpoints---almost like Rethug light trying to pass as liberal. Many folks seem to talk out of their asses without having any concept of what the topic being discussed is about. Just knee jerk reactions and vicious retorts as if they're being somehow personally affronted.

It's as if everyone's lost site of working towards Democrat advancement and gain and instead would rather bitch and moan and do nothing but change the cable news channel to bitch and moan some more about something else.

I find the AA boards to be the only refuge from the nonsense here... and thank God for that!

1. I have to keep telling myself two things when I log onto DU

1. This is a big-tent forum. Don't expect everyone to believe exactly as I do, and don't be too offended when they don't.
2. Remember all the stupid arrogant things I said and wrote when I was younger, and how damn sure I was that I was right and everyone else was ignorant.

All we can do is try to correct misconceptions and explain ourselves the best we can. And be thankful we have DU Forums where we can retreat to when the fireworks go off in GD and elsewhere.

2. i'm hardly ever on here anymore

i used to at least just look over the site, read some news, jump into a couple threads or something like that almost every day...but today is the first time i've logged on since the weekend

part of it is because i'm busy but the rest is what you described above; it just gets tiring after awhile
