I was about to read this OP, and I stopped "dead in my tracks"....
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 03:09 PM by FrenchieCat
I got past the Headline....but then....
Well here it is. Please let me know if you can guess why I stopped reading it.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1876451&mesg_id=1876451

Then someone created another thread stating that the original OP was a good one, and that folks should just get past the headlines...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1876716

I responded within the 2nd thread.

I am being "overly sensitive"....or what?

3. Missed the fireworks
I see one topic is locked and the other removed. I see the usual outcry of "overly sensitive" and "being PC." These are supposed to be our friends? :eyes:

7. Yep.....
Any means to an "end".....like I should "get over" having to read the "N" word 3 times in the first two sentences of some kind of OP ....just so that I can know how the GOP are framing that Hillary Clinton is a Lesbian!

4. Those types of threads are a waste of time anyway...
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 06:22 PM by Connie_Corleone
Some people think you're being "intolerant" if you have a different opinion. Whatever happened to "agree to disagree"?

I got blasted for not being "serious" just for suggesting that the post in the first thread could've used paragraphs so it could be more readable. It's just one of my pet peeves.

On edit: I don't like when the N word is used here either. Especially in that first thread because it was used way too much by the OP.

It's easy to tell us we're being "overly sensitive", but I've had someone call me the N word to my face. It's not something you can just be "objective" about and get over it.

6. Here's what I don't get. No one can talk about or compare anything
to Nazis for fear of hurting Jews or being infamatory.

But it is o.k. for people to display the CF flag and use the N-word and tell me to get over it.

Plenty of people here get pissed for the whole fat actress thing. Those thereads were bannd.

Yet y'all want me to get over people posting the n-word

WTF can't I be offended and people understand?

Why must I always have to get over people using a word that offends me and my race?

Why can't I get angry?

Why can't I be upset and let y'all know about it?

8. Cause thruthfully, my dear.....
These folks ain't got a damn clue! If it's not about "them"....then it ain't really all that important and they don't care to know about it either.

Like I told the "Leftylawyer" who called me everyname in the book except for the one we were actually discussing...."guess that I'm supposed to sit the f*ck down and STFU"....like a good little "N"!

9. I missed the first thread and the second is locked
But I got the gist of the argument. I am very sorry something like this goes on at DU. It really is sickening, especially for those of us who marched and demonstrated to call quits to this.

Frenchie

Not only ignorant, but hurtful, too. Hooray for the Left!! :sarcasm:

10. U should know your place
on here. To be seen so that the so-call progressives feel like they are open to diversity, but keep your mouth shut so their hidden prejudices can't come to light for everyone to see. Frenchie u should know how it is on here by now!

Being a member of DU has been very eye-opening, to say the least. All that glitters is not gold and that goes for so-call progressives on here.

BTW, I couldn't see the original post and the 2nd post has been locked.

I would recommend that everyone in this group remember posters who makes an insensitive post in reference to AA or AA issues and see if there is a pattern.

11. no kidding
it's not even an election year! what on earth are "you folks" getting so uppity about? :sarcasm:

diversity works for most folks as long as they don't have to change their set way of thinking in order to accomodate it. from what i have observed on this site and in dealings with other progressives is that most people are not pro-diversity or anti-racist because it is simply the right thing to do, instead they "are" only because they think they have to be. and when someone does something only because they feel obligated to, it is almost never sincere or genuine...does that make sense??

this brings to mind a saying about the difference between the North and the South...something along the lines of, "In the South, at least they'll call you n****r to your face." That's what this seems like.

Righties might be the ones to push you, but Lefties are the ones on their knees right behind you. "But we didn't push you, we were just sitting there!" Yeah, but you made it a hell of a lot harder of a fall.
