Dave Chappelle on the Actor's Studio-- |
|
I'm watching now. I'm enjoying the interview and the fact that the host, James Lipton usually doesn't say very much. He just asks a question and allows his guests to speak, with little interruption.
He's made some interesting and valid remarks about the state of the entertainment industry. He also asked some questions like "what is going on in entertainment that makes Martin scream and yell in the street, while waving a gun, Mariah Carey do a striptease on TRL and me run to Africa?"
Anyone watch? What are your thoughts?

He's wicked sharp and reflexively funny and at first I thought I was seeing some kind of melancholy but I think it was him being nervous and taking the answers seriously. His comedy is so edgy I was surprised the negative media attention wasn't more than a sarcastic remark's worth of attention to him but he addressed that too when he mentioned the Pitt/Anniston breakup and how it must've felt for them to see the speculations in People. About the fame, he said, "...I was scared man..." and he had a right to be.

I enjoyed seeing that side of him, and it gave me more to consider his Oprah interview. But honestly, I liked this one more. Oprah has a tendency to NEED to share applicable life stories and experiences to those that the guest is sharing--frankly I don't care. I get sick of it being about her--I want to hear about the guest, without her editorial comments and life experiences. We've ALL heard it ALL before, Oprah--give it a rest.
James Lipton was great because he allowed Chappelle so much room and time to reflect and talk, without a lot of editorial comments or sharing of his personal stuff. It's the guest's show and he allows it to be that.
Entertainment does not sound like it's at all fun, glamourous or even rewarding. The way the media focuses on all the perks, the red carpet, free clothes for events, etc., etc.--so not about that, particularly when you're an entertainer of color it seems. They may get some of those perks along the road, but not without a great toll on their hearts and souls.
Sounds like in many instances it can just suck people dry--which is so sad. :hi:
