Cynthia McKinney: 'Her personality took over'. Is this true?
McKinney's Future Unsure after Loss
By ERRIN HAINES , 08.09.2006, 06:28 PM

Following Rep. Cynthia McKinney's second ouster from office in four years, some are closing the book on her political future.

"She's history," said University of Georgia political science professor Charles Bullock. "You don't get another chance to come back after losing two primaries. It's rare to come back after losing once."

<snip>

Black voters casting ballots at her Stone Mountain precinct on Tuesday had mixed feelings about McKinney. Vanessa Milton voted for McKinney, and said the congresswoman had a relatively good track record before the Capitol Police incident. But the 48-year-old said she felt McKinney's personality had taken over.

"As an African-American, I am very committed to our people and being strong, but there comes a time when some people overdo it," Milton said. "I want her to be a strong black woman, but I don't want her to be a buffoon."

1. Tom Joyner and the gang joked that it was the new hairstyle
from the altercation with Capitol police.

2. From what I've read on our boards...
it seems that some in her district may believe there were some voting irregularities. Some of this could have been attributed to voting machine issues, or some may just be wanting a change in their area. :shrug:

Here's a link to the thread where the voting irregularities were discussed at some length. It's not active now and is probably dropping toward the archives, so I hope no one thinks I am linking to it so others will post to the fray. The thread is now calm and not active--I'm merely providing a link for the sake of information (per the topic of this thread).

My take is that it's possible that those in her district wanted to give another a chance. Then again, with the previous issues we've had with the voting machines, there's also another possibility to consider. Tough to say. I just wish people didn't allow the incident of the past year to color their overall view of Ms. McKinney. She seems to be one that has worked hard for her constituents and to speak for the truth, even when it's made her look bad to some...

:hi:

3. There seems to be a stigma in our country
when someone comes up against the police. Whether the guy was an actual officer or just a security officer, there is a major issue for many with that. The police are still seen as a major figure of authority. The idea of a women "accosting" an officer, even in self defense just doesn't sit well with too many. It's not pc.

My personal opinion, I think the whole thing is b*** s*** and don't think that incident should overshadow her track record in office and what she has done on behalf of her constituents.
