Spike Lee's documentary about Katrina starts tomorrow night on HBO.
It has been receiving raves, although I would be interested in seeing it, regardless of the critic's opinions. So here is my question. How do you see the film if you don't get HBO? I may try to sign up for the channel for just one month if I have to.

1. It may turn up on PBS in a little while
I watched part of it. If you followed the news of Katrina as it was happening, you've seen a lot of it already. Spike has some nice, more extensive interviews, not the soundbites that many networks have, but I also felt like I already knew the story, since I watched so much of the coverage.

2. I went ahead and signed up with HBO for the month.
My husband has been after me to subscribe anyway, but I didn't think we would watch it enough to justify the cost. So he is happy. I can always cancel again if we are not watching it enough.

I recorded the episode, but haven't watched it yet. I have been hyperventilating over the ME and global warming recently, I didn't feel up to revisiting Katrina last night.

3. HBO has great original TV series
the best on TV. If you were to have only one pay channel, this would be the one.

4. it was devastating
in both its emotional impact (but a wide range of emotions) and its criticism of what went wrong. it was the straight truth and it hit hard without being partisan or petty. mr. lee has set the bar high for cable documentaries.

5. The reviews I read called it his "master work"
or something similar. High praise for someone as accomplished as Lee. I will watch it this weekend.

It was very sad to see the goverment and insurance companies treat them like dirt. The stories were very emotional and graphic, but real without the media spin.

When the Levees Broke is up there along with 4 Little Girls.
