Poll question: Please share your thoughts...
...on whether or not you would like to see (and participate in) a special edition of "Best of DU?"
The special edition would feature any threads pertaining to the results of this election, including:

1. Obama's win
2. The new first family
3. Who President Obama may or may not choose in the cabinet (if the thread has racial subtext or comments specific to the discussions of this forum.)
4. Propositions that passed or did not pass (if they pertain to this group).
5. Others, as long as they pertain to the goals cited in the mission statement of this group.

FAQ's
Why a Special edition?
Our usual "Best of thread" is growing. I know there are quite a few threads related to the aftermath of the election, and it may be best to keep this issue separate.

Why haven't you done this, yet?"
Initially, it was merely because many of the threads hadn't dropped to the archives yet. I feel it's important to maintain consistency on this, and we've had success maintaining these threads by following the guideline of NOT linking to open threads.

Well, a few threads are hitting the archives, and some are locked. So my hesitance at this point is based in not wanting to feed any negativity (just as things seem to be calming down). At the same time, I understand (and agree with) the idea that it may be a good idea to document this chapter of DU's history--particularly as it relates to the the first President of color.

Some issues this edition could look at and discuss:
1. What issues manage to remain the same, even in a society that could elect and vote for a black man?
2. Have any issues changed, in regard to race?
3. Are some issues related to race and ethnicity more prevalent in an on-line community (where people may feel bolstered by anonymity to share what they would not face to face)?
4. ....and more, to be determined.

Anyway, that's all for now.
Please vote.
:)
