Maybe it's just me
I can't get myself worked up because Michael Vick was let back into the NFL. To be honest, I couldn't care less. However, to hear some people around here tell it it's the worse thing that ever, ever, ever happened ever.

We have ballplayers who treat women terribly. There have been rapists and other felons in the NFL So the worst image that the NFL has is the dogfight ring guy? I think that these people have their priorities rather backwards. I just can't get worked up over abuse of animals when there are abusers of actual humans not being shunned. And not for nothing, but I think there may be some racial overtone to it. How dare that felonious black man possibly make millions of dollars.

I don't know. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I just get very suspicious when there's an outcry of this sort as you don't see it too often when the person in question is white.

1. 'Groupies' are known to flock to 'jocks' and these young
women get taken advantage of in most cases. Sad but true. I have a problem with the preferential treatment of athletes and/or celebrities in relation to being able to 'return to a career' while ordinary citizens in similar situations have nothing waiting for them in terms of career or opportunities. They are left to make it the best way they can. Who hires anybody with a felony record?
It's pathetic.

2. Some people love dogs more than people......
But at the end of the day, he has served his time.
To demonize him further becomes extreme.....IMO.

3. I'll just add this to the list of things that are (not so) slowly driving me away from this place
Although, there have been a few glimmers of hope scattered around. :)

5. I agree. The outcry is excessive.
I hesitate to label the backlash against him as race-based. IMO such claims should be reserved for important things, and Vick is not one of them.

He has served his time and should be able, even encouraged, to reenter society and follow his dreams. His dream is the NFL, not the priesthood. I wish everyone who has "paid his debt to society" was provided the same opportunity.

Finally, I have been surprised by some of the keep him in prison forever sentiments. I do not condone his dogfighting activities but do not find them as reprehensible as others obviously do. Then again, I can not imagine letting a dog sleep in my bed or eat off my plates.

7. lol

I am sooo with you on that!

I could tell you some stories about my in-laws and their pets that would make you retch all over the place. Lets just say, some of them seem to be having a borderline LOVE AFFAIR with their pets. :scared:

8. I do love my pets but they can't eat off of my plate. They do
lay on my bed until it's bed time and they have their own spot in the house. I do realize that a love for animals should never diminish the care and concern we SHOULD have for one another.

9. Agree
Vick has served his time. What I find troubling is that white folks (the only ones I've seen STILL screaming bloody murder over this) would gladly see another black man stay behind bars because he pissed them off, and in the same breath, they pardon obviously racist cops that continue to kill and injure black people.
