Four black actors get five Academy Award nominations |
|
Jamie Foxx is nominated for two, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, Don Cheadle for Best Actor, Morgan Freeman for Best Supporting Actor, and Sophia Okenedo for Best Supporting Actress.
The most in history.

1. Remember when Halle won back in 02? |
|
They screamed reverse racism and said she only won because it was the same year they were honoring Sydney Portier

The first time 2 black performers took Best Actor and Best Actress awards in the same year, the freepers screamed bloody murder. I'll bet they're madder now! LOL :P

Black people are noted for excellent dramatic performances, not just comedy and athletics. Congrats to them all! :headbang:

5. I don't see how Jamie Foxx can lose |
|
I like Don Cheadle, but Ray.....he WAS Ray Charles.
That's one of the best acting jobs in years.

13. I saw Hotel Rwanda last night |
|
It was POWERFUL. Cheadle and Okenedo were superb. Okenedo was especially impressive showing an incredible range of emotions - she ripped my heart out more than once.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, don't miss it. The violence is not graphic (s mistake in my opinion), there are also moments of humor, and there's a scene where the little girls trapped in the hotel do an impromptu dance at the side of the swimming pool one afternoon that was beautiful.

since Devil in a Blue Dress but - I confess - I thought the genocide would be too hard for me to take. So, GOP, I'm gonna go see it...based on YOUR assurances. My emotional health and well-being are therefore in your hands. You have time to change that 'not graphic' if you want...

15. Yikes! 'graphic" vs. 'not graphic' |
|
I guess 'graphic' is a relative term, but in defense of my impression that the violence was not that graphic, note that Hotel Rwanda is rated PG-13, not R. There are scenes of people being beaten, from a distance, and some slashings and shootings but it wasn't bloody.
But, you're right, this is a movie about genocide, so expect to exit the theater emotionally drained and very, very upset, but not grossed out.
Hell, I'll go out on a limb and say I'm certain you'll be glad you saw it, msgadget. (However I was also certain George McGovern was going to win in '72).

16. As an action adventure fan, |
|
it's not fictional violence that gets me but the knowledge I'm watching a re-enactment of something horrific. I think I can take it though. Thanks for the review, GOPFighter.
