Air Force Master Sgt. Scott Wilkes was appalled when he deployed to Afghanistan in August and saw wounded warriors being transported wearing only their underwear.

Local hospitals didn’t have clothing available for the wounded, so Wilkes took matters into his own hands.

The aeromedical technician e-mailed family and friends back home, asking for help. His plea began to circulate to churches, schools, police stations and firehouses. Soon, boxes of clothes started pouring in. In less than four months, more than 1,000 boxes containing 18,000 pounds of donations had been delivered.

Even after making sure that the wounded warriors were taken care of, Wilkes and his team had clothing left over to distribute at the Kandahar Airfield morale tent.
