I got a response from Gore to the letter I wrote him |
|
I'm not fooling myself into thinking he wrote it himself, but I didn't expect a response at all. The funny thing is that I wrote it after postage went up, so I know it was after May 14, and the letter was dated April 20. His staff must really be cranking out the responses and forgot to update the date in the form letter.

Thank you for your letter...
I have no plans to run at this time...
I believe I can serve best doing what I am doing now...?

Here:
Dear Sharon:
Thank you so much for your letter encouraging me to seek the presidency in 2008. I appreciate your kind words and am very grateful for your continued support.
While I do not have any plans to be a candidate again, I intend to remain very active in fighting for the causes we believe in and working to ensure that the Democratic Party becomes a more effective voice for the values that you and I hold dear. I hope that you will join me in continuing to promote the vision we share for our country.
One way you can do that is to engage with me in a campaign of a different sort--to educate the American people about the climate crisis facing our nation and indeed, the world. I hope you will learn everything you can about the crisis--watch "An Inconvenient Truth" or read the book--and then turn that knowledge into action. You can further our efforts by signing up on www.algore.com, and together we can rise to meet this global challenge. We need you!
Tipper joins me in sending our best wishes and thanks.
Sincerely,
Al Gore
Well, I've already done everything he's asked -- I saw the movie three times, I'm signed up on his site and I've started doing my part at home and at work. I might write him again and fill him in on what I've done so far. We got a program started at work, and I'd love for him to know about that effort.
