if we build it, he will run
hi all. didn't really have anything to say. just wanted to sun myself in the light of my president.

really, tho, i have been trying to do some of the little things that i can do- like i am getting the hang of refusing to take plastic bags. it took a little while just to remember. and sometimes i forget, until the clerk has filled them up. i say, oops, sorry, i promised my president al gore that i would try to stop using unnecessary bags. it usually gets a chuckle, and a little sigh, and indulgence for their wasted efforts. maybe it will lead to a few of those clerks, and their stores, to just ask if people want a bag when they only have a couple of items. it's win-win.
anyway, what y'all up to?
they are showing inconvenient truth in grant park next month. that should be interesting.

1. Check these out
www.1bagatatime.com

I ordered 15 reusable bags from them and keep them in my car at all times. They're $1.99 each and are machine washable.

I'm finally making progress on my elecric usage -- my usage on my last bill was down 25% from last month and down 37%from the same month last year. I just got new appliances, which certainly is part of it. It was also a very hot month, so was thrilled! I'm signed up for our utility's green program, too, so I'm paying a little extra, but it's worth it to help invest in renewable energy.

2. wish we had that here.
with a big family, there is only so much you can cut down. i turn off lights and tv a dozen times a day or more. i would do the green thing in a heartbeat.
traders joes sells some great shopping bags for a buck, right at the checkout. that's what they all should do. i keep one in each car. sometimes it is not getting out of the store so much as getting the stuff from several stops into the house.

we are in the early stages of planning a replacement for a rickety enclosed porch that will be lean and green. got a great nut of an architect.

3. My store is getting use to me now
I keep 3-4 canvas bags in each car and a few in the house for when I pack a lunch or dinner (i work swings).

At first I got the look, and now they just smile and one of the packers showed the clerk how to pack better in the canvas bag the other day.

We have new house so it was built with energy applicances, extra thick windows and insulation. Even when it was snowing out we had the heater off during the night.

We have fans for the summer so we rarely turn on air conditioning.

Our area has cheap electric so most appliances are that way and we don't use hardly any gas or oil. We are near the columbia river which has huge water power plants with a law from years ago not to have the rates be high for the locals.

I wish with all the wind though they would have wind fans going, I don't see why we can't throughout the whole u.s. there are so many windy areas. I think like the electric car problem the billions the oil people make they are more than able to stop what we want...

Which all leads back to why we need Gore as pres. You need major major power to be in charge of corporations like that with all that money....Gore as he is now, doesn't have enough power to fight them.

5. I thought that was a guy thing
I put my seatbelt on first and then start the car. My husband always waits until we've driven a couple of blocks, and then puts his on, but at least he's not sitting there with the car running.
