folks are getting cranky- dfa fundraiser last night.
they had a straw poll- chicago rules- buy a vote for $5, 3 for $10, distribute as you like. i bought most of the gore votes, and got some real crankiness from the former gore "hopeful".
i figure, why not hold out? why let go of the ideal, when the real is so pathetic, and there is plenty of time still? i would jump if there was anything worth jumping to. sigh.

As the days go by it gets harder and harder to turn on the television. The only reason I do is to see if there is any hope. There's no one else that I believe can do as much as Gore can. Nor do I believe there is anyone running who has the vision he has. He sees the big picture. He sees the interconnectiveness of world events and the climate crisis. We are in a crisis.

I almost cried last night when I saw Gore on "30 Rock" when he said the line about a whale in trouble as he dashed off to save it. All I could think about us, "what about us?" We're in deep shit and we're calling to him. Why doesn't he hear us?

We're the whale, Mr. Gore. We are the white whale. Why aren't you coming for us?

Oh well. I'm not sure if I'm becoming pessimistic because there are no viable alternatives on the horizon. Or if it is just because the news is so depressing. There are people fighting for their countries and we're to blame. Our need for energy has created the mess we're in. The US needs to have a hand in mideast politics because of the oil and instead of doing it diplomatically we use deceit and military might. Our overwhelming need for consumerism means we're getting substandard and hazardous products made with little to no regard for the labor or the environment. Our greed is helping to kill the planet. Our greed is killing the planet.

I'll keep soldiering on, mainly because if I don't, I will really have a hard time caring any more. Really. If Gore doesn't jump in or some other miracle happens that makes the current candidates decide the climate crisis is the issue and then show me they can connect the dots, I'm done. I will have lost hope for and in humanity.

edited to add the following "update" of "Remember, Remember the Fifth of November" I wrote a few days ago.

Remember, remember the Seventh of November,
The GOP Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why GOP Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Al Gore, Al Gore, t'was his intent
To low old coal and save Enviro'ment
Three-score pages of Opinion blow
To approve America's overthrow;
By Court's providence he was catch'd
With jury stacked and votes to match.
Holloa boys, holloa Sandy, bet that hell did ring.
Holloa boys, holloa Sandy, you gave us this Reigme.
