My only complaint about the new DU homepage...
The "DEMOCRATS 2008" field should be alphabetized by FIRST NAMES - don't you think?

Al Gore

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

A new Gallup Poll shows Gore locked in third place with Edwards - and Gore hasn't even announced - YET!

Clinton 31%
Obama 26%
Edwards 16%
Gore 15%

2. Looks like using Al Gore to raise money
Without even listing his REAL website @ http://www.algore.com it also smacks of disrespect to me.

3. You might want to email the admins - they may not know which website is best...
And I thought it was very cool that they included Al considering the fact that all of the other people who are listed there *have* declared their candidacy.

:hi:

6. I did respond in the thread about the homepage

Obviously it won't be changed. And I don't happen to think he is unworthy of mention unless he can be included with those who seem to have accepted this toxic process underway already. He is in a category all his own now.

4. All of the "donate" links go to DU-specific ActBlue pages
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 03:35 PM by SharonRB
that were set up to raise money for the candidates.

They could list algore.com instead of the movie website, though.

5. No they don't

The last I checked those listed there besides Mr. Gore and Wesley Clark are linked to their websites. And I still do not appreciate Mr. Gore being listed as a candidate when he is not one. It does look as though his name and popularity are being used for other purposes. Heck, the link to climatecrisis.org doesn't even show it as An Inconvenient Truth but "movie link." I am sorry if you disagree, but I think it is there to serve no other purpose but to raise money to be used elsewhere and not to support him or his endeavors. It also seems to be his wish at this time to not be designated as a political candidate (specifically because doing so does politicize his efforts which he has already stated are not political) and I think that should be respected.

7. The "Donate" link is the same for all people in the 2008 list -
it goes to one ActBlue page designated for DemocraticUnderground donors - and it includes the "Draft Gore" fund.

http://www.actblue.com/page/du-presidential

Also - how many people would've complained to the Admins if they had left Gore out? A bunch. I've emailed Skinner to ask him to connect AlGore.com instead of the movie site. Given that they are working hard on the new page and new servers I would expect that a change would take a couple of days.

9. And just where does money collected in a "Draft Gore" fund go?
Is there a link that gives any idea what any money collected is being used for?

10. A DU member is participating in the Draft Gore campaign at
http://www.algore.org/

And then there is... http://draftgore.com/

I don't know whether they are related, but if you want to know more about where it goes and how they spend the money, that would take a little more energy than I have for this issue.

There is a petition to sign at http://draftgore.com/ and some interesting news at http://www.algore.org/ - Al got 25% in a recent California poll, coming in second.

11. yes, and I also just read a poll at the opposite end
Saying that only two out of five people want him to run. So I suppose you can skew polls anyway you wish, which really doesn't concern me. I am not into polls, nor am I into the political games of it all. I just respect the man and want to be able to see how money collected for him is being used. I'm also not interested in algore.org since they are not the authority on him, and am also not interested in any news about a draft. I trust Mr. Gore's judgement and support his efforts now and am using my time and extra funds for that purpose. But thanks for responding with civility which is more than I get from some here.

12. The DU Admins just linked Al's site to the front page --
Instead of "Inconvenient Truth" it now goes to http://www.algore.com/

Yeah Admins! :applause:

And, as for trusting Gore's judgment as to whether he wants to run or not - I do. If I trust his judgment enough to want him to be President, then I have to trust his judgment enough to make the decision about whether he will run or not. I still think it is appropriate to let him know that his leadership is desired and that he would have support if he decided to run.

14. That poll included Republicans -- who wouldn't vote for any Dem
When you just poll Democrats, there is more support than that. And if you polled the netroots, support for him to run would probably go up to somewhere between 85 and 95 percent.

8. Al Gore will let us know when he wants his wishes known.
He'll let us know when he absolutely will not be running, or he simply will not run.

If he is weary of the talk of his candidacy, or if he finds it counter-productive he will only have to announce that he will not be running.

It's as simple as that.

In the meantime you might show some respect to Americans who have every right to draft any person they so desire to run for president.

Aside from the immense disrespect you regularly display to many DUers, your leaps of logic regarding what you imagine Al Gore to be thinking of all this, merely short-wires normal synapses in the healthy brain.

13. That money cannot be used for anything else
If he doesn't run, there are requirements as to where that money can go.
