Bishop: Virgin Mary apparition did appear
from CNN:

An apparition of the Virgin Mary did appear in rural Brown County in 1859, Bishop David Ricken of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay has ruled.

Ricken announced his findings at a crowded, invitation-only Mass Wednesday morning at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion. The site has been a popular destination for prayer since word of the apparent apparition, which was reported by Sister Adele Brise, a Belgian-born nun.

“To see that so many good things have come about here, story after story after story, its living proof that something very authentic is here,” said Bishop Ricken.

Ricken’s declaration makes the shrine the only site of an approved apparition in the United States, according to the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay. It is now considered to have the same status as other well-known sites, such as Lourdes, France; Guadalupe, Mexico; and Fatima, Portugal.

I thought we were supposed to accept religion of faith, and weren't supposed to demand revelation (even the kind that occurs in obscure small towns with only a handful of witnesses).

2. The 'faith' part comes when you have to have faith that the town and church aren't milking this
for every cent they can get out of the gullible. Oops, out of the 'faithful'.

6. Good stories = living proof of authenticity. Really?
Pardon my language Bishop Ricken, but you, sir, are a fucking idiot. I can't even count the number of logic errors you made in that one simple statement.

9. Doesn't "apparition" mean that which appears?
I know amateur astronomers are always looking forward to the next apparition of Mars or whatever. So isn't saying that an apparition appeared a bit redundant?
