I think most of the Xtians have me on ignore in R/T. |
|
I get no responses over there anymore. I only have one of those folks on ignore because I got sick of being compared to Stalin. Oh well. DU has become kind of a bore anyway. Actually, all internet discussion board I know of are. They're either nasty arguments, echo chambers or have nothing to say about anything.

It's the electronic age equivalent of burning us at the stake. Old habits die hard. What I find hilarious is that they have a place they can go and sing kumbaya and talk about how wonderful their faith is and no atheist will bother them. It's the Christian Liberals group, and it is DEAD.

5. "they have a place they can go and sing kumbaya"... |
|
conversely, I am glad that Atheists and Agnostics group exists- I live in the bible belt, and this is one of the few places where I can say what I really think. If I said that "I question peoples intelligence the minute I find out they are a believer" in the real world, not many would talk with me :)

6. Oh absolutely. And the big difference is, we actually use ours. |
|
Minorities appreciate "safe havens." Majorities see no use for them, because the world IS their safe haven. Which would also explain why they throw fits when we express our opinions in THEIR "safe haven."

9. You know, one thought never really dawned on me... |
|
or at least I haven't given it much thought, but we are minorities. Growing up a white male, I have never experienced what some people have, and I am generally pretty quiet about my atheism at work. I do think, however, if it was widely known it would probably affect any chance for advancement I might have.

I am also part of a majority in every other aspect of my life - like you, a white male. Throw in heterosexual, no medical problems or disabilities, etc. and I'm as "normal" as they come. I'm so very lucky I can easily hide what makes me despicable to millions of people. Then I can come here to DU and get mocked by religious idiots - but it's worth it, being able to humiliate them in R/T.

I was reading the forums some months ago about DU3 and someone suggested quite openly that the Skeptic and pseudoscience board could be done away with because not many people use it. I was shocked by the arrogance involved and it made me feel very small and quite worried. If a majority vote were held, I'm sure we would be very vulnerable to being discarded. Even other minorities talk of 'whiny atheists' who don't experience 'true discriminationTM' My life is richer and saner for this group and I don't want to lose it.
