TRIPODS capture director
NED KELLY director Gregor Jordan has been hired to helm THE TRIPODS movie. Based on the teen SF books by John Christopher, the movie version is in development at Touchstone Pictures. Jordan will also rewrite the script.

I don't know how many of you know about Tripods, but for a while it was a Dr.Who "standby" in Who fandom(we'd watch the adapation of it when we were bored with the Doctor).

1. Loved the Books
I never saw the english series on it. Heard mixed things about it.

I loved John Christopher books though when I was young. Maybe the first sci-fi that really got me in book form. I got drawn to them via the boys life magazine cartoon, you know the old boy scout/cub scout magazine?

He had other books I liked too that would make cool movies. One was a trilogy set in the future where the world had been decimated and people didn't remmeber the past...sort of a fantasy story set in the future.

The otherone was the 'fireball' trilogy where three boys (again) get zapped into an alternate dimension and travel Europe the Americas and China in this alternate universe where history was different. Very cool.

2. It's a bit strange in terms of timing.
What with the upcoming period-set War of the Worlds coming out. I can imagine a lot of people will just claim that Tripods is a rip-off.

The UK Tripods shows were ok. Nothing to write home about. The kids were good actors but the sets and effects all had a lower-than-Who production value.

3. Why can't hollywood make something new? Tripds, starships, Dukes, oh my.
Tripods is a early-1980s short-lived British TV show, based on the original comic. As I recall, of course.

Hollywood, much like corporate america, is bankrupting our country of brains with all these damn remakes.

I like the past and will watch it, but if they can't make anything new or even remotely original/inventive, why should I watch a trashy remake that only urinates on the original?
