Poll question: BSG: Should President Laura Roslin die?
As much as I would miss her, I feel it would be cheating the audience if somehow they found a miracle cure.

8. I have serious doubts that the prophecy and their holy books are true
However, Roslyn's illness is real and terminal. I voted "No" on this poll because I will miss her character, the only civilian opposition to the show's militarism. I am resigned to her death.

2. She'll Die, at least in some form
I think most likely she'll just out and out die. Of course with the pacing of BSG that could be several seasons away, with her slowly wasting away. The miracle being how long she fights it, and how long she lasts.

In their time it's only been a few months since they left the colonies, so if she were to last months more, it'd be a miracle, but it could go 2 more seasons at least.

One possibliity though is that they'll find the Lords of Kobol somewhat like they did in the original series. The beings of light. Perhaps they might show up, just breifly for the first time, and take her away. She'll 'die', but she'll ascend and join them.

Once she's gone though Baltar becomes President. That'll be interesting, if something else isn't worked out.

I'm looking forward to checking out the Pegasus come next episode. I loved that two parter from the original.

3. I think she will die, but it could be a while
The last episode, Doc Cottle said it was weeks, maybe a month, until she dies. However, with the episode pacing, it might not be until the end of Season 3. Her & Olmos are definitely the highest profile stars in the show, so they might figure out a way to keep her around... maybe as an Obi-Wan like figure, or maybe in Baltar's head, or in some tapes made in memorium?

But, they also have a presidential election coming up as well, as Roslin was only filling out the term of the dead president. Will that be Tom Zarek vs Baltar? Or, maybe somebody new will come to the fore?

4. I bet she runs again and wins
Then again who knows...That's one of the many great things about this show. I have NO idea what is going to happen.

Earth could be in the past, it could be in our present, it could be our future, they may never find earth, they may find earth next season (though I doubt it heh)...

5. my question on earth
right now, with Christianity & Islam, the world is primarily monotheistic... which is more in line with the cylon beliefs.

Greek mythology died out with the Greeks 2000 years ago or so.

so, what will the cylons think of earth if it is primarily monotheistic?

6. interesting hypothetical
It's hard to really say. We aren't really totally sure of the Cylon motives. Is it just that they feel that one of God's commandments was to procreate, so they are leaving the remaining humans alive to learn how?

Now, my best guess of this is based on the original series, which is a big mistake to make using that as knowledge, but I'll do it anyway.

In the original series there were serious hints that the lords of kobol were the beings of light they encountered. The Mother Race. A higher, far more advanced physically and technological species. They were treated by humans as Gods, with names like Athena, Apollo, Zeus, etc. The humans therefore developed a polytheistic religion based on this mother race.

The Cylons in the original series were a robotic race that had rebelled against their creators and taken their name, much like the current series, except that in the original series the Cylons were a reptillian race. Man didn't make the Cylons. Still though they were led by an imperious leader, who had a very distinct voice. Later on the crew would encounter a rather...shall we say 'devilish' man by the name of Count Iblis. Baltar, who was with the fleet at this point, even made a comment about recognizing his voice. He turned out to be a demon. A devil. Satan. Call it what you will.

The implication here is that the Cylon 'God' is actually an evil higher being, while the Human 'Gods' are good higher beings. None are actually gods, but where the Human 'Gods' are extremely hands off, the Cylon 'God' is far more hands on.

So based on this background in my thoughts on the current setup, perhaps the Cylons are being led astray by this evil creature, in which case they'd call all the religions of earth false religions as well, most likely.

What do you think?

7. Voted Yes but with great hesitation
Doc Cottle has given her about a month to live and it looks like there is no way out. The dynamic between her and Adama is crucial to the drama / tensions of the show so far. It's been eluded that Billy is being groomed to be President but he's way too young right now to hold his own against an opponet like Zarek. Despite my hope that they don't cheese out and introduces some miracle cure - there is a part of me that would like that to happen JUST to keep her on the show. I know, I know - bad. Maybe the miracle cure isn't really a cure but it holds off the cancer for a while longer? No wait, that won't work either I guess since the scrolls indicated that the leader will die leading the RTF to Earth. Maybe the leader that dies is actually Adama. Roslyn survives somehow to continue to be the civilian leader. Maybe Apollo takes over as the military leader. Tigh could retire. Starbuck becomes Apollo's XO? Maybe one of the nuggets from "Act of Contrition" will become CAG. It would be cool if one of the nuggets became a "Wedge Antilles" character - maybe Hotdog or maybe Kat.... OK, OK. I should slow down a tad here - gone way of topic, as it were. The events listed will have to happen over years though.... Sorry - this is a stream of consciousness type post.

9. I'm wondering if she really does have only weeks to live....
What if the cylon virus had messed with Doc Cottle's tests?

Who knows?

BSG's writers have earned my faith. I'm willing to wait and see.
