I must say it: Galaxy Quest is simply the best
I watched it again last night and then watched all of the cut scenes.

What a fabulous science fiction film. The villains kicked ass, the special effects were great and used with restraint and there was plenty of humor.

I find it ironic that it seldom shows up on those "best sci-fi movie" lists.

1. It's excellent.
I've heard other people say it's crap. I don't get that.

2. As they say, "To each his own."
I've had people rant and rave about movies that I couldn't give a tinker's dam about. I know it can go both ways.

But, hey, I've got you!

:)

The Thermian language track.

4. It's the only performance by Tim Allen that I can stomach
And it is indeed a great little film besides.

The best thing about the humor IMO is that they play it straight but never take themselves too seriously. In that way they captured one part of the essense of ST:TOS very effectively, and that kine of humor just makes for better watching.

Also, it's the best variation to date on the old trick of "we learned your language by intercepting your tv signals."

7. "And it exploded"
{Fred has tested the "digital conveyor" teleportation device on a pig-lizard that was chasing Jason Nesmith, but the pig-lizard has been horribly mutilated by the process.}

Jason Nesmith: {over the comm} What was that?

Sir Alexander Dane: Uh, nothing.

Jason Nesmith: I heard some squealing or something.

Gwen DeMarco: No, everything is fine.

Teb: But the animal is inside out.

Jason Nesmith: I heard that! It got turned inside out?

{The pig-lizard bursts, spattering the area with gore.}

Teb: {pleasant demeanour barely faltering} And it exploded.

Jason Nesmith: Did I just hear that the animal turned inside out and then EXPLODED?

Gwen DeMarco: Um... hold, please.

:rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

And this one...

{Jason is being menaced by a huge monster made of rocks.}

Tommy Webber: Jason, go for its eyes!

Jason Nesmith: It doesn't have any eyes!

Tommy Webber: Well, then go for the throat or something. Its vulnerable spots!

Jason Nesmith: It's a ROCK! It doesn't have any vulnerable spots!

Guy Fleegman: I know! You'll need to make a weapon. Look around you — can you construct some sort of rudimentary lathe?

Jason Nesmith: A LATHE? Get off the line, Guy! Alexander, you're my advisor. Advise me.

Sir Alexander Dane: Jason, you're just going to have to figure out what it wants. What is its motivation?

Jason Nesmith: It's a rock monster! It doesn't HAVE any motivation!

Sir Alexander Dane: That was always your problem, Jason. You were never serious about the craft.

"rudimentary lathe" :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

6. The Best Star Trek Movie...
...since "The Wrath of Khan"!

;)

Wonderful film. Won the 2000 Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation (beat out "The Matrix") and the writer was in Chicago to receive the award. (That almost never happens with movies.) He was really excited, too - he knew what the Hugo was and was thrilled to win one.

What's so cool about "Galaxy Quest" is, the fans are the real heroes.

What's also cool is, Jason Nesmith's mine-towing tactic is BRILLIANT.

And the "Gilligan's Island" bit ("Those poor people!")

And...and...and... oh, just go see it for yourself.

Great, great, great movie.

8. " I Know... You Fashion A Weapon."
"Look around. Can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?" ...Classic. Another favorite,"We better get out of here before one of those things kills guy." I watched it again, Twice,this weekend and there's so much good stuff it's almost a sin.

10. Galaxy Quest always puts me in a happy place
...and I've been a Trekkie forever. Well, since my teens, but at my current age that seems like forever. The riffs on Trek are a scream! One of many great quotes -- when Nesmith is fighting the rock monster and Sir Alexander deadpans, "I see you've managed to get your shirt off."

:rofl:

I don't have it on DVD because I know I'd get sick of it that way. I prefer stumbling across it on satellite and enjoying it all over again.

BTW, the Trek humor is one reason I also loved Stargate SG-1.

12. When you can use the first 15 minutes
to explain to your parents the attraction of going to conventions, yeah, it's that good. :D

Never give up! Never surrender!
