I just watched Blade Runner all the way through for the first time in probably 20 years.
I've never read the PKD novel it is based on and I know that I really should but I'm even thicker headed that that. I never really got the whole 'is he a replicant' question and I deliberty tried not to follow such discussions on the topic in an effort to 'get it' myself and form my own opinion. Although you can't be a SF fan and not hear bits and pieces of the discussion and every time it confused me.
Now I fining effing get it...the version I watched was the lastest "Final Cut" version which ended differently than I remember (no driving off into the country with the girl) and now I get the whole discussion.
Duh! :slaps self on the forehead:

1. You don't need to read the novel to get the movie |
|
since there is little they share in common.
But you should read it anyway!

2. The only thing you need to know about the whole "Is Deckard a replicant" thing |

Ridley Scott is a hack who will do anything for a buck.

3. I saw the Final Cut at the Castro Theater in San Francisco. |

Still as good as ever, and Roy Batty's final speech still gets to me. Most of the work done seems to be refining the special effects, and some dialog touchup.
