1. 4 of which will probably even be worth seeing.
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 11:46 AM by Forkboy
Don't know about anyone else, but Neuromancer being done makes me nervous, though if done right we could have potential Bladerunner type coolness on out hands.

Meanwhile, everybody and their brother is making giant monster movies now, but where is Toho with the big G? We're now in Year 5 sans a new Godzilla movie, and it's really starting to piss me off. x(

2. The problem I see with Neuromancer...
is the report that it will star Hayden Christensen.

4. Why would you say such an ugly, ugly thing?
Hayden Christensen has been good in exactly two roles, and I leave it to the reader to decide which ones.

What are the odds that someone is grooming Megan Fox to play Molly?

7. Here's the role that Hayden was born to play.
It's all been downhill since this.

12. ooh, that is a problem.
Watched 'Jumper' last night. Two hours I'll never get back.

The bright side: At least it's not gonna be Keanu.

5. I kind of feel as though it's too late to make Neuromancer
After The Matrix and Johnny Mnemonic and Existenz etc., it's possible that the original will seem "derivative" of its imitators!

6. Gojira!
I know what you mean. They had their big anniversary release of a lot of the Godzilla films so I was hoping they would be working on a new one. Well, as long as they don't give the rights for a film to the US again, like they did a few years back. Although I do like the scene in Final Wars where they make a reference to that film. (I refuse to mention that film by name because it would seem almost like I'm acknowledging its right to that name.)

13. Toho said it would be five to ten years before they brought him back.
Which means I may have to wait another 5 years. x(

I'm glad Cloverfield got made, even if it wasn't a great movie (I liked it, didn't love it), because since then everyone has jumped on the big monster bandwagon. There's a bunch in development. It's like everyone is rushing to fill the void left by Toho. I hope they get off their asses soon. All big monsters are awesome, but we all know there's only one King. :)

The american version was a fun remake of The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. Unfortunately for them they told everyone it was a Godzilla movie, so people actually expected Godzilla to be in it somewhere. Godzilla would have made a great Godzilla. Shame they never casted him.

14. I seem to recall seeing a brief clip of a CGI Godzilla
The real one--not the Matthew Broderick one. The clip was pretty short, but it looked cool.

Do you know what I'm talking about? Would you happen to have a link....?

18. It's from a movie called Always: Sunset on Third Street 2.
This clip was just a dream sequence in it. Looks cool, but a whole movie done that way would cost a lot, and Toho is pretty stingy when it comes to Godzilla movies (the highest budget they ever had for one is around 6 million U.S.).

Was there some significance behind the woman grabbing that signboard from beside the door as she fled?

20. I wish I knew.
I want to know what the big sign on the ground says right before the guy's hair stands on end as well. In Destroy All Monsters after Tokyo gets rubbed out (again) they pan the destruction and then zoom in on a small sign right before the scene ends. It drives me nuts not knowing what it says. It must be something related to the movie or they wouldn't focus on the fucker!

I haven't seen these Always movies yet. I know they're based on a Manga about Japan in the 50's, and I guess they just tell the stories of everyday people. I know the first movie was a huge hit in Japan, and won something like 12 of 13 Japanese Academy Awards including best picture, director, actor, supporting actor and actress...so it must be fairly good one would think. I'm not going to order them, but if I see them I'll probably grab them and check them out. In some Japanese movies even the signs get subtitles, so maybe that's the case here and we can answer our questions. :)

10. No word on director yet
But The Halcyon Company, the Terminator franchise production company, are producing it. PKD's daughters (Electric Sheperd Productions) are involved. Supposedly Halcyon has the rights to adapt VALIS and Radio Free Albemuth too.

11. I saw a stage production of Flow My Tears back in 2000 or so at the U of Pittsburgh
It was a lot better than I'd expected, to be honest.

Don't know how a movie would turn out, though.

21. Great list!.........
I'm really excited about Fincher's new Heavy Metal and Gilliam's new film. I guess I'd be willing to give Neuromancer a chance - even tho I think Hayden will stink it up.

But, I'm still waiting for these:

Any kind of Hyperion film. Hell, I'd even settle for an "Illium" or "Olympos" adaptation. Dan Simmons work is too good not to be brought to the screen.
The Stars My Destination
A new Riddick movie

22. I would say at the moment Dan Simmons is my favorite author.
That's even considering I couldn't make it all the way through the last one I picked up. The real story was just too dang depressing!
