Anyone watching the final season of 'Six Feet Under'?
I have watched every episode since this series started, and loved each one! This is yet another fantastic series that HBO is letting die after this season finishes. Only a few episodes left.

The plot lines are ramping up for the finale, and it should be interesting!

1. I thought ending it was a creative decision...
Edited on Wed Jul-06-05 05:08 PM by Kashka-Kat
not a matter of "letting it die"? I have complete respect for the choice to wrap up a series in an artful & logical way

instead of milking the cash cow until it turns into a horrible parody of itself and then dies a merciful death ... as seems to happen w/ too many series on US tv....

Im just watching the first yr. on my ole VCR so I don't want to know what happens!

2. Okay, I'll try not to spoil anything for you!
You will really enjoy this series, as it is one of the best written and most imaginative ones I can remember! Very dark humor, which I enjoy. However, I guess some of my frustration comes as a result of LOVING 3 series that HBO has decided to end, all within the span of a few months: Sopranos, Carnivale, and Six Feet Under. I really enjoyed all of them, and hate to see them go!

3. Don't count out Sopranos yet
Rumors are flying around that Chase does not think he can squeeze his planned ending into a short season. As long as the stars consent (their contracts each only call for one more season) there may be another season or a half season to wrap up the show.
Hell, I'll take another 1 or 2 episodes.

4. what good news!
I will have to share this with Mr. Lavenderdiva, as he is the one who got me started with the Sopranos, and converted me into a regular viewer! He will be oh-so happy!

5. Did you watch last night?
I'm so glad it's back on Sundays. I kept forgetting to watch on Mondays until it was half over and then I'd have to tape one of the reruns later in the week.

I loved the zinger aimed right at Shrub last night. It was great!

6. I squealed with delight when I heard Claire, including the jump and kick
while very forcefully expressing her displeasure at Shrub having been elected!!! One great TV moment, IMHO!

Do you think the writing this season is waaayyyyy better than last season? I mean its always been good, but it seems this season the writers are just excellent. Also, did you notice Ruth's hair in this episode? Her hair has always been kinda indicative of her inner self, and for most of this episode, her hair was down on her shoulders, not in a tight bun, and very wavy. She was just letting her inner self relax and shine! I loved it!

7. It wasn't Claire who said it
It was Aunt Sarah, whose friend had died. And I cracked up when I heard it.

They've always had Ruth's hair be indicative of how she was feeling. There was a time a couple years ago when she also wore her hair down.

8. you are right!
when I told my husband about this post, and your having noticed what she said about Shrub, he too, corrected me that it wasn't Claire, but Sarah who said it!

I really should have remembered this, as the actress who plays Sarah, Patricia Clarkson, went to high school with me!

10. I think the show is exhausting itself
better to let it end than beat it to death. That was the case for Sex in the City. It needed to end. Carnivale, however, was another matter.
I keep hoping HBO will see the error of their ways and decide to bring it back.

15. Tonight's episode was just awesome!
At least they didn't leave us wondering: is he or isn't he? They showed previews of next week's episode, vs. last week when they didn't show previews, and the previews for next week showed scenes from the funeral. So he's really, really gone.

What do you think Brenda will do about what Nate told her? Do you think she will tell anybody? Do you think Nate told David? I'll bet there is going to be a battle royale over Maya. And I'll bet Maggie is also pregnant. I really enjoyed seeing Claire and her new boyfriend; he seems nice (but sucks politically!)

Just a great episode!!!

16. I did cry just a little.
There are only three episodes left, so I don't know if they'd do anything with Maggie being pregnant -- there could be no real resolution. I don't think Nate told anyone and I don't know if Brenda will tell anyone. I think she'll wind up with Maya -- who else would she go with? Ruth? Claire? I think not. I suppose David and Keith could get her. But as far as Maya is concerned, Brenda is her mother and it would be awful to take her away from her.

I thought for sure after that political argument at dinner Claire and Tim (?) would be finished, but he was so sweet staying with her at the hospital, I'd give him another chance. After all, James Carville and Mary Matalin can do it, why not Claire and Tim? I just love when they bring politics into the story, and they've done it on almost every episode this season, although this was the most intense. The others have been pretty subtle.

17. I thought the same thing about their dinner 'chat'...
it was blatant, in-your-face stuff! Fabulous!

I thought the same thing about David & Keith adopting Maya. But I'll bet Ruth will put up a fight, because that will be a 'bit of Nate'. I don't think Ruth and Brenda have all that cosy of a relationship either. Not nasty, just not close. I agree Brenda is the only mother-figure Maya has known, so it would make sense if Brenda kept her. Did you see the previews for next week's show? There is one snippet where David is talking to Brenda about the funeral arrangements, and Brenda is saying that she just doesn't know what Nate would want. At that point, Ruth shows up, and is screaming something about still being Nate's mother, and wanting to be heard about what SHE wants. Could portend to the Maya thing as well....

18. don't know if Brenda ever adopted Maya
Right now Maya is an orphan unless Brenda adopted her. Of course, it would be cruel to take Maya from Brenda especially with a sister on the way. This actually sounds like a law school family law question on the finals. There's only three shows left so I think we will be left with some resolution.

I like the political tone of the show especially since the backdrop is always death. It is a subliminal reminder of how unexpected death is, how it affects family members and how sudden deaths leave so many things unresolved for the family and friends left.

One thing that struck me about Nate and his attraction to Maggie (and the female rabbi a few seasons ago) was that it was part of his search for spirituality/understanding he's been on since his dad died.

19. The BEST drama on television - bar none!
Entertainment Weekly moaned about the number of Emmy nominations Six Feet Under got, but I've got news for them. This current season blows everything else out of the water.

Highlights:

Brenda's dialogue with Lisa.
Nate's "Shut the Fuck Up" birthday party.
Claire and Ruth's argument over college.
Vanessa's confession to Rico (I'm still moved just recalling that scene).
and, of course, last nights "green" funeral.

This is powerful stuff, and everyone is at the top of their game.
