Can we talk about soap operas here? |
|
I'm a big General Hospital nut, and the show just irritates the crap out of me sometimes.

I used to watch GH and before that DOOL, but stopped about seven years ago. Just stopped being able to find the time for it. It's really disconcerting to tune in and see the original actors who played children playing adults who are having affairs.

It's called SORAS or Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome.
They usually do it when a kid's about 4 or so, they stop being cutesy cutesy.
After a while I called Days DrOOL. I just missed the Marlena as the Devil story. But I was there when Marlena had her affiar with John and produced Belle.
What, now Belle's 20 or something. SORASed.

Kidding!! Please discuss. I watched GH as a student. That was back when Felicia was married to Frisco. I had a huge crush on Felicia.

80s hair and all, huh?
I didn't start really until Carly "Caroline Benson" Roberts showed up as Bobbie's daughter and seduced Bobbie's husband Tony -- Frisco's brother.

9. I watched Steve & Audrey |
|
And Howie & Jane and they were all having affairs, was Howie having an affair with Bobbi? Anybody remember them? I was a kid and my aunt watched so I watched. Went through the Felicia and Frisco and Luke and Laura and Holly and Robert and all of that. Also used to watch OLTL and some others on occasion. Then I stopped watching. I really don't miss it, I watch craft and hobby shows now.

7. I loved Lois and watched around the time Sonny & Carly were hooking up... |
|
You know my brain is such mush these days I can't remember much else in the way of storylines. "Back in those days" I talked about soaps on Usenet - rec.arts.tv.soaps - and I lamented how much I hated DOOL because they just went off the deep end with some of their storylines.
So out of the blue this woman who was a fiend about taping GH sent me a series of tapes she put together of the big highlights of the past several years. I watched them, returned the tapes back to her, and got hooked.
That was before people like my mother got on the Internet. ;)

8. Then you got to watch the Divine Sarah Brown |
|
as Carly. Tamara's good and made the role her own, but she just isn't Carly to me.
You missed the years the show teased people like me with a Jason/Carly hookup. That was what hooked me into the show.
I never bought the S/C pairing. I always thought it was a story device because Steve Burton was leaving at the time, and they needed an excuse to send him on his way and something for S/C to do while he was gone.
Course at the time I was busy hating AJ, so...

watch on a daily basis. I hadn't watched in years and got sucked back in around July. I'm loving every minute of the last 2 weeks.

11. Just in time for Alexis/Carly to FINALLY |
|
tell Sonny about Kristina.
That's what sucked me back in as well. That and the thought of Sonny and Carly finally breaking up for GOOD. Oh happy day.
I don't want her with Jason anymore because he's turned into such a prig, but who knows.
Anyway, hi.
:hi:

I quit watching GH around the time Karen/Jagger were on and Brenda was the bad girl. I totally missed the Sonny/Brenda and the Carly/Jason era. I came in July so I only know what I am familiar with or read on message boards. Sarah Brown must have been really good because I see that she has a huge following as Carly and some want to see her back.
Jason is one of my favorites and right now I am a solid JaSam fan. I do realize though that even if/when they get together it won't be long before something/someone will break them up. I have been watching soaps long enough to know that getting people together and then breaking them up what makes the soap world go around.
I must have a thing for bad boys because I love Sonny, Jason, Lorenzo and Rick.

13. The Divine SB is on ATWT right now as Julie. |
|
She's not on there enough for me to really get into her there. But yeah, she was dynamite on stilletos as Carly.
I got roped in because of J/C, and will be mad at Frons and crew forever for stringing me along and then putting Carly with Sonny when Steve B. left the show.
But I got mad at the show for some other reason right after Ric kidnapped Carly. It just seemed like more of the same. So I decided to wait for the big paternity reveal before I would come back.
Well, it finally happened...
Bad boys are the most fun, aren't they?

14. I followed "General Hospital" for years |
|
Also, "One Life to Live." When I began working earlier hours, I totally lost track and it's too late to go back. I followed the classic years, when I was quite young, Luke and Laura, Scorpio and Anna, Frisco and Felicia. I thought that she was so beautiful. And the Quartermains. Those were the days.
