Big Love 4/23...
It seems everything is unraveling.

Bill wants Barb more than his other wives it seems--but now realizes (because of Barb's guilt over Nikki) that he can't sneak around to see her anymore.

How are they going to react to Margene sneaking off to church? I couldn't help but be happy for her--that she was getting out and experiencing LIFE, even if it is just at church. lol. Their life just seems so limiting for the women, particularly when they are young like Margene and got involved prior to figuring out who they really are.

What's up with Albie (or is it Alfie), Nikki's brother? I get the sense he is quite the closeted(gay) one. I almost feel sorry for him, but he's SO OBNOXIOUS. But why go through the trouble of allowing the guy to go to his place with him, if he wasn't "interested?" Or did he just lose it because that is part of the "programming" religion teaches to "knock the gay feelings out"? (*cough* like that works :eyes:)

I didn't think Roman sent Albie to Bill's place. I thought he was sending him somewhere else (not sure where). But he told him he was dealing with the Hendrickson issue himself and no longer needed him to work on that...so I'm not really clear on where Albie was going, and why he ended up breaking into Bill's office. Is he just eager for any sort of attention? Or does he need Bill to think he's still working on his father's behalf?

Bill's father--what a loser! 'Nuff said.

If anyone has insight to the religion, I'm really interested in the whole compound thing. Is that pretty typical in that they live so dependent on a community? Seems odd...

Any thoughts on above issues, or anything else? :hi:

2. I am, too...
I'm just a bit sad Bill and Barb won't be sneaking away anymore. I know it would be the show concept to a screeching halt--but I like the idea of him being with his first wife--only. lol.

3. I've read articles on Colorado City AZ
which sound similar to the compound on Big Love. they even cited examples of "rebels" being evicted and their homes bulldozed, much like Sunday night's episode. I was astounded when the teenager brought her friend home for dinner. Poor Margie gets all of these warnings but the parents didn't even reprimand the girl. Poor Margie - she's so isolated. That scene in the hotel with Albie and the man was bizarre - I'm not sure what to make of it.

4. Wasn't that strange?
I wasn't initially sure what to make of it, either. Then I recalled an episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit on "reprogramming of gays."

The whole knocking his head against the wall thing may have been his way of trying to "silence" his true feelings. Also, I thought back on the episode when Bill's son is arguing with the girl in her car. She's begging him not to go to seminary because it will make him creepy and weird. She's concerned that they will teach him that sexuality is wrong.

There seems to be an underlying theme of that--of a young man's burdgeoning sexuality translating into something forbidden and evil. So it would make sense that Albie may be closeted (among other things--he's really an odd guy).

Were you clear on where he was going? Where Roman sent him? I didn't get the sense Roman was sending him to Bill's store.

Albie said that's his place when he goes there. Maybe Roman knows and sends him there to deal with his feelings?? I know that's a stretch...I just didn't get why he was there, or why Roman sent him away.

5. Did not think about Albie hitting his head to silence his feelings - or
thoughts? I thought at one point that he was making it up just to get rid of the guy and that he got himself into the situation because he was so un-informed about the world that he did not know the guy was gay and that was why they were going to the hotel.

When he said he left the window open in the bathroom did he mean he already had rented that room? Before he picked up the other guy? if that is true then it makes more sense that he wanted to have sex but couldn't go through with it so he banged his head against the wall - maybe they teach that as some sort of aversion therapy or ways to cope with the Devil.

Nothing is ever said about Margine's mother and father and siblings if she has any. Then again the only ones who have contact so far with family are the ones who came from the compound - Bill and Nikki. Maybe the others cut themselves off from their families.

Also I bet Nikki has never had an orgasm. Her sex life with Bill seems so robotic. She was telling him to "give me a boy Bill, give me a boy" while they were having sex. I bet she believes that sex is for the enjoyment of the man and for procreating only. I would love to see Bill teach her how to have a good time in the sac!!! Or maybe one of the other wives could teach here. The posibilites are endless here.

6. Hi Maraya--

:hi: I hadn't considered what you stated, but think that is a viable option too (that he got himself into the situation because he's uninformed of the world). The aversion therapy is exactly what I was thinking. :) I was friends once with a former fundie, I got the sense that they learned that sort of stuff, though it wasn't directly taught...just something they came away from the experience with. We'll have to wait and see how that Albie situation develops. I was surprised, as I didn't expect much more from that character than being Roman's henchman.

Oh almost forgot, Albie did say something to the effect of, "...this is where I stay when I come here for business..." That's where I got the sense he'd stayed there before.

Actually, in one of the first episodes Margine has a phone conversation with her mother I think. You get the sense that it wasn't a close relationship and that she didn't care what was going on w/Margine as the mother ended the conversation rather abruptly.

I agree with you about Nikki--what a great observation on your part!! LOL! I bet you're right in that she seems to go through the motions and knows nothing of kicking up her heels and really going for hers(so to speak)! :P

7. Hi back Bliss!
:hi: I am so glad this thead is going on. The show facinates me.

If Albie said he came to that motel when he came for business I wonder why the bathroom window was open like he said? :hi:

8. I'm not sure at all...
The whole Albie situation is intriguing. Initially he just seemed a creepy guy that liked to do Roman's dirty work--now we're seeing a whole other side to him, but WHAT does it mean? LOL! Apparently Roman's kids weren't particularly nurtured were they? Nikki has serious issues and...well...Albie...

Like you, I'm rather fascinated by it all as well. :hi:

9. Alby
To answer the question about Alby...........I think he broke into Home Plus to prove to his father that he could deal with Bill. I know his father told him it wasn't his fault but on some level he probably still feels like he failed him. (I don't think his father sent him to break into the place but it's unclear exactly why he did send him away.)
