Dexter
I'm starting a thread here so it will be easier to find.

Here's a recent thread from elsewhere on DU:

1. Spoilers
So now I'm really hooked on this show. I re-watched the first episode since I first saw it when the series started. It's amazing how uncharacteristic Dexter is in that first episode. He's more social and outgoing than in subsequent episode, it's almost like a caricature.

There was lots of telegraphing in the first episode, worth going back to see again if you can.

I didn't realize that after Dexter's kill, the ice truck pulled up behind him at the hotel (where I guess he was waiting for Rita). ITK knew where Dex had just been. When I first saw this, like his Lt., I had also thought it an extraordinary coincidence -- wonder why Dex didn't think so?

Another detail I had missed, was that the ITK had killed 2 prostitutes before this one, but we don't hear any details about that. Practice sessions? Is Rudy a new killer then? Makes me wonder if he's doing this to impress Dexter, which is what Dexter thinks. Maybe Rudy isn't really a natural like Dex. Angel mentioned it several times, that he thought the ITK was perfecting his technique.

Some more random thoughts/details from various episodes:

Noticed that Harry was a Sargeant (from the episode about his partner having been killed, and the perp walked). So, that's the connection between Doakes and Harry -- both sargeants, and both were able to "see" through Dexter.

Another strange thing I noticed: when Dex was breaking into the house of one of his victims, he used bare hands to grasp the doorknob, but then put gloves on once inside the house. For someone as careful as he is, that surprised me. Also, when he was cutting him up and all the blood was everywhere, his cell phone rang, and was apparently just sitting out on a surface in that room -- seems he would have worried about it getting blood on it. And it looked like he had blood on his shirt, but later, after following the ITK and seeing the head get tossed out the window, he's being interviewed by his lieutenant and his shirt is not bloody.

I've tried to find out who the child actor was who played the role of Dex when he was 3, because it looks to me like it's the same actor that plays Cody, but can't find it. So, his mom looked like Rita, and he looked like Cody. No wonder he identifies with Cody so well.

As for Deb, she is generally annoying, but in the first episode, when she tries to suggest the refrigeration truck idea during the staff briefing, that scene is her best scene, I think. I'm otherwise not really impressed with her acting.

Let's hear all the little details you have picked up!

2. Interesting observations,
I thought his mom looked like Rita too. I guess I wasn't just imagining it. But I didn't notice the kid; I'll have to keep an eye out for that one.

This show is so fascinating. I wonder if they'll finish out the ITK storyline. That is such an interesting story, especially as it works into Dexter's past. I'm thinking that if they finish that one out, what could they possibly do next to hold such interest in a larger story?

3. I'm really bored with the sister.
She's so annoying at this point that I wouldn't miss her if the ITK
offed her.

That being said, I have a feeling there's more to her character than meets the eye.
If the series continues, I fully expect to learn that she has always known about
Dexter and that she's a fairly skillful killer, too. After all, she had years and
years of time (while being totally neglected by her father) to practice her skills.

Just my random thoughts on the show.
