Deadliest Catch is getting serious and sad |
|
So, I knew it was coming, but it still sucked. Captain Phil is going. I'm glad he and Jake had a bit of a rapprochement before the end.
A real downer for what's usually great entertainment.

Yeah, the last two episodes, between Jake's admission of a drug addiction and Phil's stroke were very, very hard to watch. But it's a testament to the show and the people that we all care so much.

2. i wonder when they had the scene looking at the pictures of the kids and phil.... |
|
you have to wonder if he knew it was coming. i am glad they had that moment to share though. i think it would be awful if that fight they had would have been the last interaction before phil dies. when i watched that fight, all i could think was that phil was going to die and here they were having this serious argument. the toughest part is having to carry something like that around with you and never been able to fix it because someone is gone.

3. That was as classy as anything I've ever seen on Reality TV |
|
BTW, the song was Redemption Day by Johnny Cash, which I've already bought. Great song, great montage. Not a dry eye in the house here.

I felt for the boys. Josh is so lost, but trying so hard to be a good man amidst the pain. Jake is struggling but trying to work things out in his own way. Heartbreaking.
After the Catch this week was good, They had both boys on, and you could see the weight of trying to carry on their father's legacy on both of the them. They are trying to do right by the boat and the crew and beginning to realize how difficult it really is to do all that and run a successful business.
Josh really is beginning to impress me. I don't think he wants to be a captain, but he's stepping up to make sure things get done right.

5. you can hear his dad in his voice |

Josh really got the Phil genes, I think. From what I understand, Jake's working the boat, while Josh is running the business side of things, and they're actually on the verge of making a go of things.
If it falls through, they have jobs for life with the other DC captains.

6. i think the way he brought them in was the right way. made them work for it just like anyone else. |
|
and they are better for it. it's the most dangerous job though, so anything else would have been a bad idea. i saw the ads for this weeks season finale and they are running the boat, so i hope that means they have got it figured out. i would hate for them to lost that boat after their father worked so hard to have that legacy for them.
