Boardwalk Empire
is simply amazing. Third episode was transitional, not quite up to the first two, but Van Alden is insane, truly creepy.

I can't wait to see Jimmy go up against Lucky Luciano. I can't figure out where they're going to go with that, as Luciano is a historical figure long after 1920, and Jimmy has been set up as a central character to the show. They could be fooling us, though, and off Jimmy, who appears to be headed to Chicago.

If you haven't caught this show, I highly recommend it. Steve Buscemi is doing an incredible job in the lead. The music and art direction are impeccable, as are the costumes.

2. Agree.
Steve Buscemi is such a fine actor and he's playing this complex Nucky role to the hilt.

3. I think Jimmy is in for the long haul
I noticed that he (Michael Pitt) and Buscemi have done other work together, so I'm guessing that his character will have longevity.

Or maybe not?

4. I think you're right
I can't imagine that they'd spend this much time setting up this character, only to kill him off quickly. I have no idea how they're going to resolve this, though.

5. I love Steve Buscemi and with Scorsese directing, this really is a must see series.
Love the stories of the "baby gangsters."

6. so we meet Meyer Lansky
And Margaret is now a concubine. She seemed fine with it until the word was used.

Haele predicted Van Alden was a flagellator. That was creepy as hell.

So Luciano is trying to muscle in on Nucky's turf? We know both of them were thriving throughout the 20's, so I'm not sure how they'll reconcile this.

Jimmy's assassin friend could come in quite handy. That was genius. And Jimmy (and the girl he called over) were quite nice to him when he needed some human compassion.

Show keeps getting better and better.

8. I love this show.
I have recorded all, so far.

I hate it when I really get into a series show like Deadwood or Crash and then it just suddenly stops.

I don't think Nucky was stupid enough to believe Margaret wouldn't look in the ledger. Maybe he is, he did put up with Lucy after all, but he knows Margaret isn't Lucy.

Van Alden. I was, at first, convinced that he was going to steal Angela's money. After all, if he was unethical enough to stop its delivery, why not go the extra step? I'm convinced he sent it to remove the temptation. Van Alden is all about temptation, after all.

Historically, when Harding was elected, he had all the Prohibition agents fired and allowed the local Republican bosses to hire new ones. Then the head of the Prohibition agency set up parallel task forces that weren't corrupt. This is sort of how the FBI started. I wonder how the show will deal with that.

The Margaret v Lucy scene was sad. I found it interesting that Margaret now has an aura of power to her that Madame Jeunet recognizes.

According to the previews, next week Harrow kills every person in Atlantic City. :D

12. so, who amongst the Prohibition agents is on the take?
obviously, the guy who killed Billy is, but did he take his orders from Nucky or from the director?

Luciano lived up to his nickname. Lucky, indeed.

The D'Alessio's aren't long for this world, I think. Neither is Doyle.

13. wow, just, wow
that was a GREAT finale to the season.

Can you imagine the doom that awaits the offspring of Nelson and Lucy?

I think LouAnn was giving Nucky some info about the brewing conspiracy against him. Said conspiracy is doomed, of course, because Eli will get all pissy when he discovers Jimmy's the golden boy, and he's once again playing second fiddle.

Angela pulled a stone cold evil maneuvre with her hair cutting. Jimmy's look of pain and confusion was masterfully done by the actor.

Speaking of powerful acting performances, the scene where Nucky tells Margaret the truth about his wife and son was stunning. As someone who's lost an infant, I can tell you his manner struck home with me. The overwhelming guilt shone through beautifully. Good writing, even better acting.

One plot hole: How did having all those suspected gangsters turn up dead suddenly convince everyone the Republicans were the party of law and order?

So happy to see them drop that ridiculous war between Rothstein and Nucky. Didn't happen in real life, either. Nucky was actually the guy who kept bringing all the different bosses and gangsters together to make even more money. Spoiler: This lasted until a Democrat (FDR) got in the White House and sent Hoover after him.

Back to the conspiracy: I wonder if Jimmy'll have the heart to stick with it. He should by all rights hate the Commodore even more than he hates Nucky, plus, Nucky raised him, in part.

And if Nucky lets Margaret into his world, well, I'll put her scheming ability up against Eli's any day of the week. :D

Can't wait for Season 2.
