Kerry to unveil a clean energy financing bill today

He just won’t quit: In the wake of his failed climate change push, John Kerry today drops a clean energy financing bill, which extends tax incentives for energy efficient buildings, natural gas vehicles and biodiesel, and provides an additional $3.5 billion for renewable energy bonds. His “Clean Energy Technology Act” will likely be one in a long line of bills in coming year from climate change advocates, who recognize that the political landscape will make it impossible to move a comprehensive bill before 2012, and will in the meantime take smaller bites at the apple. “While we continue the fight to bring comprehensive energy legislation to the floor of the United States Senate, it’s essential that we take action to start moving in the right direction,” said Sen. Kerry. “Providing incentives for clean energy production will drive our economy forward and take us one step closer to reducing our carbon emissions and ending our dependence on foreign oil.”

1. Article with more details

According to the statement, the bill, which Kerry introduced today, would:

* provide tax incentives for solar energy;
* provide tax incentives for electric vehicles and the batteries that are necessary to run them;
* extend tax credits for energy efficient homes and buildings;
* provide incentives for natural gas vehicles;
* and extend the tax credit for companies that make energy efficient appliances.

4. "he just won't quit" : ) Bravo, Sen. Kerry!

I had the exact same thoughts as soon as I heard about the bill, but, unlike Politico, I wasn't surprised. I thought instead : that's my senator! Persistence and commitment seem to be part of Sen. Kerry's DNA. Astonishing that people are still surprised, but glad that some at least are slowly starting to get it.
And to think that he represents my home state, to boot: something definitely to feel proud about, and grateful for.

7. All of this is really good information.
I read the NYT article too. This would make a nice GDP post, these incentives will stimulate the ecomony.

2. This is good news!
I laughed about the part about "he just won't quit", written in baffled tones. They're catching on a little late, but better late than never -- no, he won't.

3. Like you, I am astonished that so many are surprised that he doesn't quit
He didn't on BCCI and the Contra investigations where he it was entirely likely that he could have been jeopardizing his career. He STILL is fighting for everything he ran on in 2004.

5. Good for him, rather than standing idly by and doing nothing, on energy conservation,
he is being pro-active and attempting to get things in place that will be very beneficial down the road.
