9. Benedict XVI is probably only your second pope but he's my sixth and |
|
I'm going to pray for him and watch to see how his papacy develops.
Having been through this before, I know that on the day the white smoke arises, no one ever can predict how a papacy will develop.
I feel sure that Pope Benedict XVI will be a good administrator and I think he will keep the Church on the road that John Paul II had it on. The Catholic Church is not going to suddenly approve of sex outside marriage, abortion, divorce, or women in the priesthood. But it's not going to undo Vatican II, either.
I read that Cardinal Ratzinger has expressed the opinion that annulments could/should be made easier to get, which is not a conservative view. And he was a leader in ecumenical outreach after Vatican II, also not conservative.
Cheer up! I was hoping for Tettamanzi or Martini or Schoenborn myself but the Holy Spirit and the cardinals saw Ratzinger as the best choice for this time. So pray for Benedict XVI to be a good and wise pope.

15. The Holy Spirit has spoken. |

The Church will grow and Benedict XVI will lead her. Like he said " I am only a worker in the vineyard of the Lord." May Jesus be with him and guide him.

... I really had hoped that for the sake of the church the cardinals would choose someone (almost anyone) else!

Yeah, I let out a strangled cry when we were watching in art history.
I go to an uber-conservative Catholic all-girls HS, and we were all crushed. Everyone is really upset.

Here's to all other progressive Catholics who are tired of hearing that Pope Benedict XVI's age is a plus for us. I broke down and cried when I found out RATzinger was the new Pope.
