I've had to delay grad school a year because of health reasons.
I've lost my appetite. My weight is headed down again.
I feel like cutting.
And I'm sad.
And, as I tried to tell my shrink, the Lexapro isn't doing shit for me.
I'm still waiting for it to "get better," as people have promised me for years that it will.

I think whittling on wood, knitting, filing fingernails, kneading clay or bread dough..... substitutes unpleasant urges for me....
And make yourself clear to your shrink.

I've been feeling a little down myself, lately. I used to think that there wasn't anything that cold beer and hot pizza couldn't fix. That was before I almost ate a bullet.
I don't know what to tell you but to hang in there, derbstyron. I'm not going to bullshit you and tell you that one day everything will be fine. But you do have a chance of that happening if you do everything that your supposed to do now. Go to your shrink and throw a fit. Tell him/her that nothing they are going is working. Threaten to fire her/him. They will be open to changes if they are not now.

3. don't just threaten... |

often you do need to fire your doc/pdoc. They can take it, they're professionals (or should be). You can't.
I think you just have to resolve to be more stubborn than your depression. At least that's what I do. You gotta keep trying different things, and never believe that newer meds are necessarily better. If Lexapro isn't doing it try something else - anything else! What's there to lose?

Be more stubborn than your depression.
And give your doc hell. We have the best mental health tech in the world.
We have to tinker with somebody's meds about every month here. And we were lucky enough to find a doc who gets it. Taking meds is a process, not so much a decision.
There's plenty of room and options for improvement.
Much love your way, and please keep us posted, Beth
