Things are going good, but I feel bad
Lots of changes for me recently. Got a good, new job. Just bought a new condo and moved out of my parents' house. I feel like I've got a little bit of my dignity back after losing my house due to cut backs at a previous job. But I am so lonely.

I don't want to be in a relationship. I just want to have friends. What are some good ways to meet new people?

1. First, congrats, Droopy on your great changes.....
it will probably take getting used to living on your own again, I can well imagine.

I would probably try to meet new people /potential friends by doing some kind of volunteer group work. I wouldn't enjoy trying to meet people at a club or bar.....
Doing something active without concentrating on socializing would be the route I would take.

Congrats, Droopy. It does sound like lots of change but also, like positive change!

When Doug split, I started reaching out to my family and to my neighbors because it was really lonely here without him. That's helped me a LOT. It feels good to know my neighbors and to build a community thingy. :)

I've been thinking of finding a reading club. Have you ever done that? I don't want to take on any volunteer work right now but was thinking maybe joining other readers might be fun.

3. meet people who share your interests
by looking on Craigslist and Meetup.com. Craigslist has an "Activities" board and a "Groups" board where people can post about upcoming events or groups they're starting for people with common interests. If you're not familiar with Meetup.com, it helps bring together people who share interests--pretty much anything you can think of, from politics to movies to food to pets, etc.

Good luck! :hi:

4. Local or State Democratic political groups, maybe?
Check library online to see what kinds of meetings are held there. Lot of times political groups will hold meetings at libraries once a month, or maybe a different group you're interested in.

Politics is good because you have an instant common bond with the other people. I typically have an instant affinity for someone I meet if I find out they're also a Bush hating Democrat.
