So the new psych says . . .
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 09:37 PM by mzteris
he thinks I'm OCD. Which contributes to the major anxiety. (And yeah, there's some PTSD in there, too.)

I always knew I had some OCD tendencies - but he thinks I'm far beyond "tendency". Huh. Who knew?

So med roulette begins.

Unfortunately, the only thing is an SSRI - which is notorious for putting weight on me - even that which supposedly "doesn't" - but for me, it does. :banghead:

So he's fast-tracking me to the upper doses since I've recently been on it, he just thinks I need a higher dosage than the PA had prescribed (which may why it wasn't working all that well.)

Only I remember it made me VERY SLEEPY during the day - no matter when I took it.

Anyway, we'll see.

Hey! Maybe I can break my internet addiction?!? No...........

Also - after we get a "handle on the OCD & anxiety" - - - THEN he'll decide whether I'm ADD.

edit damn typos!!!!!!!.......

1. About the SSRI and sleepiness during the day:
Are they time-released medications? I found that time release SSRIs damn near made me narcoleptic.

3. no - just the regular stuff
I'm on the "small dose" 10 for a week, then 20 then 30 then 40 and he'll see me again - and decide - but will probably go higher.

Every time in the psat I changed doses I had adjustment issues that lasted like a week! So I'll be on a continual adjustment for the next month or two. Fun wow.

I hate hate hate taking meds!

But if it'll make my life a little more sane, I'm willing to give it another shot.

2. If the SSRI's are making you sleepy...
why can't you take them at night? I had the same problem, and now that I take my Seroquel (not SSRI, but does make me very sleepy) I can function during the day and sleep better at night.

4. I've tried every time
but for now am going with the just before bed routine. Still makes me sleepy the next day, though.

Some of them, in the past - have made the insomnia WORSE (go figure!) - so then I have to switch to days, but so far not a problem with that this time around.

Of course he's trying only one thing at a time - so we can figure out what's causing which side-effect. So there's that.

My big concern right now is - that every I changed doses in the past, I had the adjustment period to go through - and he's going to change my dose EVERY WEEK for the next four weeks and probably the next eight weeks.

5. Different SSRI's have different effects
I had some SSRI's that made me sleepy, and some that woke me up. I had to ask my doctor for each one I tried if I should take it in the morning or night. I forget which one, but one would keep me up all night, so I took it in the morning.

Also, if you are just starting a pill, you can expect the side effects to be worse. You might be tired in the day now, but it could wear off. Seroquel just knocks me out during the day, so I have to take it at night. I know that if I had the time I could get used to taking it during the day, but at this point I need my job, so I can't be asleep while at work.

And like all anti-depressants, give it time and be patient. I know the waiting sucks, but sadly they don't make antidepressants that work right away (but I'm sure whoever finds one will be an instant millionaire)

6. I take one of my meds 2-3 hours before bed for that reason
I take my Geodon at 8:00 most nights because it has a nasty morning hangover effect on me. If I wait until later there's no way I can get out of bed before 9:00 a.m.
