Everything crappy happens in April....everyear.....why can't I just sleep through it this year and wake up on May 1.....Its only the first of the month.....not even two hours in. I can't sleep, I"m sad, I'm pissed....I just want to cry, but I can't even do that....can not find music to fit my mood. I hate April!!!!!!!

1. Have you looked into you maybe having Seasonal Affective Disorder?
I know a LOT of people get this way right around this time of year, my own mother included, and that's what she was diagnosed as having. Add the manic aspect you spoke of before and it's a bad mix. And I can totally relate to THAT part, let me tell you.

I don't notice it because I'm unhappy all year long. :)

Hope you feel better soon.

8. Sounds like more than enough to get you through this.
Focus on these but let yourself be sad as well - these activities will just keep you focused on the future at the same time.

11. thanks
my mom hated the plans for the house.....not to her taste, but I had to remind her she won't be living there....other people (with taste, of course I didn't say that....hehe) will.

Still I have stuff to do....and I've already grieved some....this is a particularly bad week for me....and my sister has really been there for me.

Her rough week is the last one in April and I"m planning my vaca to be home in time to be there for here.....

13. Just in case, try some Vitamin D. You might be surprised at the results.
Be careful not to tip over into a manic episode, though.

15. Not a bad idea,
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 09:22 AM by MrMonk
I take D during the darker months, and I think it may help. Moderate doses probably won't hurt. Just be mindful of your moods.

Another thought is, that if you need some temporary relief from anxiety, you might try an OTC compound of valerian root. There's an herbal compound (Michael's mixture?) that often helps me get an hour or so of peace.

Further, if you're reacting to memories of unhappy events, a little therapy, even the company of good and understanding friends, might help.

Not medical advice, just my own experience.

7. APRIL is the cruellest month,
breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.

10. You're welcome, DemEx.
Its really not little, but the excerpt seems to describe things nicely.

Its a classic, taught in all 'modern' poetry classes; check the link, if you're interested. But you may want to ignore, as its entitled The Wasteland.

12. I know what you mean - I hate it too
My mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer in April 1986. Someone crushed my heart in April 1991. Then you have Oklahoma City 1995. I don't know why sucky things seem to happen in April, but they do.

14. April always screws me up
It's more like SAD, not sad things.

April, give and/or take about 2 weeks, is the month of restlessness, racing thoughts, bad judgment, sleepless nights, and sudden mood changes.

I'm diagnosed with major depression (although winter doesn't bring SAD), but in April, it's almost as if I'm bipolar.

Sorry for the crappy things that happen to you in April.

16. May 1st will be here soon enough
while waiting, why not read up on May Day? It will make May arrive so much sooner.
