Michael Tilson-Thomas's amazing recording of Mahler's 6th...
I just listened to this yesterday afternoon, and couldn't recommend it more.

What makes this amazing is that, like all discs issued on the San Francisco Symphony's private label, this came from live concerts. In this case, the concerts, scheduled months in advance, fell on September 12-15, 2001.

Look at those dates again. By sheer chance, the concerts chosen to record Mahler's "Tragic" Symphony took place immediately after 9/11.

:wow:

All I can say is that the performance is as fitting a memorial as I could imagine.

1. Thanks for the recommendation
I don't have a recording of the 6th, perhaps I'll get that one.

I've been looking for this recording on Amazon, they don't seem to have it. Do you have a source for this recording?

4. I finally got it and am listening to it now
I've been through some bad weeks (bronchitis, weened off my depression meds, a major hit for money from my niece and impending unemployment (which got resolved)) I'm enjoying it now. I think it's everything you said it was, and everything I need.
