Poll question: Favorite Movement of "The Planets"?
Since we have recently seen the vindication of Holst's refusal to make a movement for Pluto when it was discovered, I thought we could all celebrate by voting/discussing our favorite movement of this masterpiece.

1. "Jupiter" is also the melody for "I Vow to Thee, My Country"
I remember at Mass once we sang a hymn -- the name escapes me -- and I realized the tune was the same as that slow, majestic passage in "Jupiter." It's also the basis for what was reportedly Princess Diana's favorite hymn, "I Vow to Thee, My Country."

After I looking at Wikipedia, I see the tune is known as Thaxted, and it is so listed in Worship, the traditional hymnal we use at mass, along with the newer Gather.

2. Venus
Having been on both sides of the pit per se with this work, this is the most relaxing and peaceful movement.

3. Jupiter! I love the sound and it brings up good memories of 2nd grade.
It was the theme song of a PBS children's science show at 10 AM we watched.
