Robin Hobb's Shaman Crossing
I just picked this up - was stuck in the ATL airport and had finished the book I brought with me, not anticipating the 4-hour delay and cancelled flights, etc. Not done with it yet, but I'm totally sucked in. I think I may have to say that Ms. Hobb is quite possibly the best fantasy author writing today. Sorry, George and Robert, but she's writing circles around you guys. If you haven't picked up this book yet, do yourself a favor and get it ASAP. You won't be able to put it down.

1. I just finished it.
and it solidifies my belief that Ms. Hobb is the best fantasy author out there right now.

Plus, she can tell a story in a trilogy, and not have it turn into a dodecalogue.

Please tell me I'm not the only one here who's read this book.

2. I Read It And Enjoyed It
Though I like her other series better (at least so far, since there's only one book released in the Shaman series), the Assassin/Livetrader/Fool meta-series. Actually, she DID use 9 books to tell that whole story!

She is definitely one of the finer talents out there. Is she better than Robert Jordan? Yes! GRRM? Not so sure. But I think the absolute BEST out there right now is Steven Erikson. The Malazan series is the best fantasy series I've ever read.

3. "I promise never to cut and run"
Anybody have any idea what that dedication means? I'm just gonna assume it's some kind of in-joke.
