Favorite Character in Martin's Song of Ice & Fire?
It's gotta be the Dwarf. Hands down he's one of the best characters ever written in a modern fantasy. Damn me, but I can't remember his name right now and my books aren't near me.

1. Can't remember the name off top of my head.
The little girl that had to disguise herself as a boy. It's been a long time since I read it.

25. one of the downsides to reading this series!
The wait between books. I read the first book, waited for the second & devoured it in 2 days. Then, I had the long wait for the third book. I swore that I'd make the book last longer by forcing myself to stop reading it.. that lasted for a week.

The bad thing is that there are so many characters that it is a bit confusing if you haven't read the books for 18 months or 2 years and then you pick it up again.

27. Most def
Martin also refuses to spell things out. He has character talk the way they'd do in real life. In real life, people don't sit and explain a 3-7 page backstory when they're talking to explain the subject the characters are talking about in a scene. People just don't do that. You have to read in-between the lines to figure the various mysteries out. (eg. the actual lineage of certain characters)

4. He Almost Died At The End Of The Last Book
Wasn't he even MORE horribly scarred and mutilated after the big battle and almost dead? He lead the defense of the Keep and got really fucked up...

I have a feeling he might end up the head of House Lannister somehow...

6. If anyone can possible come out on top
it's him. Everyone has shit on him his entire life. I think he's more than ready to start shoveling some back.

Poor thing will probably be a head in a bottle, like in Futurama, by the end of the series tho.

11. which George R.R. Martin character are you?-- take the quiz
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 04:11 PM by buddhamama
http://www.zenhex.com/quiz.php?id=1103

I'm Catelyn Stark

Catelyn Stark: Guardian of the family, you're the dependable stone to which friends and family can turn when things are rough. You don't like to complain much, and you're pretty good at solving problems. Maybe it's because you've been through a lot, or maybe you're just born that way, but it's very hard to faze you. You're not very sympathetic however, and you might put other people at risk to help those close to you.

Between some of the characters?

John Snow and Fitz for instance...Both royal bastards w/ wolves....

18. yeah and,
both John and Fitz shared a "consciousness" with their wolves.

Molly, Fitz's love and John's girl (ggrrr can't remember her name either) both had red hair and their love was "forbidden".

19. more similarities
Malta Vestrit and Sansa Stark- both were spoiled young women, fanciful notions of love and romance and had a rude awakening that changed their characters' drastically. Also, Reyn and "The Dog" were both "hideous". Granted, Sansa didn't end up with The Dog but, "feelings" existed.

21. I haven't yet
I started the first one and went "Oh gee, another stereotypical fantasy story." and gave up on it about 10 pages in. But since then just about everyone I know and every writer that I like has ranted in favor of Hobb's work. As a result, I plan on picking the first book up again and giving it a whirl...as soon as I'm done re-reading Wolfe's Urth books, that is.

22. John Snow

"A bit of an outcast perhaps, you probably have a small group of friends that are very close to you. You're friendly to everyone, but it's hard for anyone to get to know the real you. You've probably spent a lot of time trying to figure out just who exactly you are anyway. You're very brave and honourable, and have a true heart. You hate liars. You are destined for great things! (If only you could figure out what those are...)"

except for that great things part, that's pretty much me...

26. I got Arya, too
Arya Stark
Feisty and determined, you don't let anything stand in your way. Whatever it takes, you'll get what you want, no matter how you have to do it. You like to see justice being done, as Lord Eddard does, but you can forgive people if you HAVE to, however grudgingly you do it. You're a physically active person, probably good at sports and you have great reflexes. You're a quick thinker as well, and will have no problems getting along in the world. You might want to try letting some of that bitterness go though...

34. I haven't even read it, but seeing this thread on the upper page
gave me a shock.

First I wondered if someone else would be able to recycle a user name.

For a moment I thought it was '04.

Then I just appreciated that slow forums like these can keep threads live for many years.

Kephra lives on here.
