Water!!! Post some that you are NOT going to use
Since the submissions are coming in quickly, I went to look in the files, since there may not be too much time and it fills up to 30

I ran across this, and it made me laugh, so here is one from me, show me yours if you feel like it of the ones that will be "discards"

1. Water is maybe my favorite topic
Edited on Thu Jan-06-11 04:59 PM by Richard D

I almost used this one for the contest. Maybe I should have?

OK, I'll stop there.

4. Describe what you did with the first one. It is very dramatic.

8. I don't remember it all
Which is pretty bad of me . . .

Thank you.

The shot was taken about 20 minutes after the sun set into the clouds, so the light was pretty subdued and shifted towards the blue.

I ran it though Topaz Adjust till it looked pretty good, then back into light room.

There I warmed it up a little bit, added some Tint, sharpened to 59, Adjusted luminesence till I couldn't see any noise, then added in some Clarity and Vibrance.

9. I thought you maybe did a touch of a cartoon filter, but I wasn't sure.
I found that I get a good effect using a combination of HDR emulation followed by auto white balance then followed by pumping up the blacks a bit in curves. It seems to fade the high dynamic range to a point where it isn't apparent.

I'm not totally sold on HDR except to pull out details on dark regions.

3. Richard - Richard - Richard
this is a perfect illustration of the dilemma I have when I try to chose, with way way way superior photos.

I - too - love water shots.
I think I have a few nice ones. None of them can hold a candle to any of yours.

These photos were worth starting this thread, even if not one single more photo appears in it.

Thanks!

11. Oh how neat! The third one is a real contender
with the little boat -disturbance and the clouds and reflection.
The second one reminds me of one I had in my pile of possibilities, I may go get it and post it for a laugh.
But mine does not have a red ball in it.

13. Got another one (actually one of 12) that I won't use
I love water and taking photos of it so much that I'm overrun with pictures.
I went through my laptop and came up with 13 possibilities - and I have another computer in my shop full of photos I have not even looked at.

I have a headache from looking at so much water, and with the entries so far being so beautiful, mine is not even needed.
(that's what she said at this point, if there is a spot open in the morning, when the head is better, she will be re-considering)

16. Here are a few of mine.
Although I like these photos, they are not worthy of the water contest.

But . . . I may just go out over my lunchbreak and reshoot the dam one.

17. Like you, Mira, I am a bit of a water nut!
I always loved swimming and water sports, so it is natural that a lot of my pics are of water. Here is one from the Tennessee River. I still have tons more rejects.

19. I especially like the little boy in the water - that brought me to this one
in my own pile. Your little boy photo, probably because of the black and white, has an old - timey quality that if I were told it's my grandfather frolicking in the water, I'd believe it.

I'm glad to see them all. It makes me want to go swimming, the Y is just down the street but I have a horrible cold.

20. Thought about using this one...
However, it's slightly out of focus and upon closer inspection, there is 'debris' in the photograph which is not present on my glass; so who knows...

I think I like the RGB submission I made. I tried it in B&W and it just wouldn't work...

24. isn't water awesome...
in all its forms... I thought I might not be able to get a photo in since the spots were filling up so quickly. All of the entries are a delight. I really wanted to get a shot of the steam coming off the Colorado River here in Glenwood Springs, but figured I couldn't get out in time.

My entry doesn't have good depth of field but the drop I caught carries within it a whole story. I am just in awe of what water is and does and the power it has!

From everyone.

Solly, that last one. Wow. Amazing.

I only wish people could have entered several photos each. I can tell a few of us busted our brains trying to choose.

34. We missed some wonderful and worthwhile shots - too bad all the way around.
I definitely remember the second shot, maybe also the first one. He is a budding photographer who is learning all the time and has a lot to share at an early age.
He is 10 now? Maybe a little more?

I don't know what the minimum age is for him to become a participant on his own, and it may be worth checking out before too long.
And the Dad is JethroTull? We have not seen anything from him since he won a contest.
I forget which one, but I remember the photo.

35. My baby just turned 11 last week! It's a bit cold and dreary lately, so no one
has wanted to go out and shoot anything. (Well, except for basketball. Hubby is taking a lot of shots of the team during games. He loves, loves, loves sports action photography. :))

Hopefully, we'll get more involved in the forum again in the future.
