1. Beautiful! All of them. I especially like the backlighting on the gull's wings.
Nice shots.

4. Thanks
Gulls are too much fun. That was the afternoon sun coming through the wings. I liked that too. I have to take about ten photos to get one like that.

8. Wow, you do!
I don't have any great vulture shots. I'd love people add vulture shots here. Let's make it a gull and vulture thread. I draw the line at ducks and geese! I define that as hijacking. ;)

6. when the sun is low.....excellent
This could easily have been your water photo.

When gulls do their flurry thing I can't keep my camera off of them. They go from flurry one second to soaring in another. I barely see them get their prey, and it is only when I get home and look at the photos do I see a fish in the mouth.

I hope people post some more gull photos. If they don't I might post some more myself (now that is a THREAT!)

9. Glad to know they are gulls. This one
was under consideration for the water photo. I will post another gull photo after you do.
Deal!?

11. Deal
I am assuming those birds to be gulls because they are the frenzied ones that cluster in groups on the shoreline when they feed. I have never seen pelicans or herons doing anything like that. When gulls are really feeding they almost look like they need Valium or something. It can be dizzying.

If you post another gull photo then I will go back and look for one that I got in the same photo with a full moon back in December, and post it.

18. As promised - IF this is a gull. It's another photo I considered for water
and it had a bird in it.
You are now challenged to post the one you mentioned.

20. I doubt it
Gull?

I don't think so. It looks more like a sandpiper or something like that. I could be wrong. Hard to tell for sure in silhouette.

I have to say I love all your water pictures at sunset! The water looks fabulous.

I'll still look for the gull with the moon. It isn't a particularly great photo, but I sure did work hard to get both in the same photo. That was a lot of fun. If it is clear this month when the moon is full I will be out there trying again, hopefully with a new camera.

23. I wish for you the best new camera you could possibly want and afford.
That's exciting.
I think you are right, it's probably a smaller bird, thanks for liking the photo. Will look some more. I inadvertently will have gull photos hiding in my Florida shots.

Right now I'm taking a break from feeling gloriously happy about the President's magnificent speech.

What time of day was it? Nice detail.

Here is a bunch of them. I live very close to the SF Bay, so I see a lot of seabirds.

22. Really?
If you like gulls on posts, then you aren't hard to please. Gulls love posts, and they are pretty easy to photography because they stay still. I like the ones with movement a bit better. But here you go--

I want a picture of a black faced one with red legs!

Seriously, here there only seem to be a couple different types of gulls, at least in the lake where I go. Obviously, I need to learn how to distinguish some different types.

I wanted to crop the top right corner out, but would have lost the shadow. I think the gull just took off again; that was really dirty snow.
