Found some old pix in a box
wish I had the negatives, but I don't.... from 1986, a day with a wolf pack on a bad day for the pack

first saw them thus

Could not figure out what they were on about. I circled to the right, as they seemed to be looking towards the left
Came across this guy next

But other than just glancing at me, he ignored me. I went around more and coming directly back towards the original viewpoint, this pup tried to stare me down, but quit when the howling started.

The howling, I soon found out was because they had found their missing pack mate... shot by an idiot rancher, most likely. They let me sit and take pictures, they did not seem to care, they were busy mourning their dead. Man, I love wolves.

5. Oh yeah, did not say
sorry... Montana near the Canadian border, could actually be in Canada, this was pre-gps... really long lens action and the only reason I was so close was they just did not care about me for some reason

6. Beautiful, heart-moving photos!
If they were mine, I would seriously consider sending them to the "save the wolf" people for their use. Thanks for sharing them!

7. The American Wolf is no danger to man. The wolf gets
a bad rap because of their cousins in Europe. When the Euros came to the new world, they assumed the North American wolf would be the same aggressive wolf they knew from Europe.
